but once i rebuild it and i have engine flush to try and clean any rubbish out before i change the oil and filter will this not remove the stp as well? or stick it in with the new oil?

Yes thats about it. Any you have left you can stick in with the new oil.

STP is there to stop cam goring on initial start up until it gets oil feed. You don't need a lot just coat cam lobes with it then tappets and drop them in. You can do that with a small clean brush. You can then just put some engine oil over visable cam. As i said in other answer any you have left stick in with new oil, it's good stuff and will help your engine.

thats what i do, pour oil in the cam, about a litre, then over top of each rocker, not much, and rest in the top when finnished!
