Dear Land Rover,

Having been a customer of yours for 2 1/2 years now, I'd like to make a few suggestions.....

Firstly, wouldn't it be a jolly good wheeze to assemble your products using acomplete mish mash of both metric and imperial nuts / bolts. And why not take it a step further and have completely different sizes bolting together the same thing. Can you imagine the hilarity of observing both the home mechanic and your lads in your workshops cursing as they need several differnt size sockets or spanners just to remove one item?

Secondly, why not make many of the nuts and bolts for serviceable items nigh on impossable to reach. perhaps you could make a start with, and this is just of the top of my head here, the propshaft to diff flange bolts, and just for ****s and giggles, maybe one of the exhaust manifold bolts as well. Perhaps for the exhaust manifold bolt, you could design it so that it cant even be seen, let alone got to? That really would be hillarious!

Thirdly, and I know that this might sound a little 'out there', but bear with me..... Why not build your vehicles out of three different types of metal? perhaps even factor in lots of little nooks and crannys that are hard to clean, just so that rust spreads even faster. That really would be great!

Hugs and kisses, Disco Moneypit. xxx

****ING ****ERS!

that is all.

Oh yeah, it's been great fun.

It's only taken me about 4 hrs to find and then remove one bloody manifold bolt. grr

Would that be the one at the back that actually can be easily reached with a socket, a 4" extension on the end of a 6" extension on the end of a 12" extension a swivel coupling another 4" extension and a ratchet handle?

**** easy when you know how ... and have arms and hands as thin as a ballerinas with the strength of a feckin' gibbon.

If you mean the one that is, (starting from the front / rad end), lower stud 3 or 4, then yes, thats the bastard.

i work on my disco for pleasure, there surprisingly easy!!

want a challenge - try doing any work on a boat with an american V6 engine that has its roots in the 1960's!! cant change the oil because you cant get a drain pan underneath. cant change the starter cause it sits on the edge of the bilges so cant be removed without the engine coming out. cant check the oil level cause the dipstick is under a riser and to close to a seat. cant set the carb up properly cause the raw water cooling pump sits right infront of the carb adjustment screws. cant take the engine out properly without removing the outdrive. nuts and bolts are a complete mixture of metric and imperial. cant get taps to clean the threads out because there old american sizes. cant get parts as their obsolete.

oh and theres more room in a fat chicks thong than in the engine bay/bilges of an 18ft boat!!

the list goes on but im slowly erasing these horrific experiences from my memory!!

Almost makes a Discovery sound like a well thought out package..... Almost.

So in your opinion the only landrover products that are landrovers are series, older defenders, old rangies and old discos.
I'm not here to **** freelander etc owners off but to most people who like Landies that is correct. The modern stuff such as freelanders are fine if you like that sort of thing but are not "proper". You can argue it till you're blue in the face, and sadly I fear you're going to, but it's true.
