What is the power output likely to be of a 3.5 on carbs with a ten to one comp ratio, bigger valves and crap branched manifolds (4 into 1)?
Ball park figure will do, to the nearest 20 bhp or so.

thank you :)

Get an efi, 190 straight out of the bag.

U'll be lucky to get that mate. 3.5 efi was 160 outta the factory so now gonna be bout 130-140 i would have thought. Even a good 3.9 efi will be nowhere near its 180bhp.
an old 3.5 on carbs (depending on what carbs will make a huge difference), considering they were supposed to be 130bhp when new probably not much more than that unless u have a weber.
They really are not as powerful as people make out!

Wallet emptying Webers eh:rolleyes:
Cant beat the old SU as an all rounder and the bigger carbs only do any good at high engine revs in my opinion, any where else you just loose torque unless you are very good with the throttle on a twin choke.

Thinking mine should be 120 to 150 when I've fettled the fuel and timing, hope so any way. If not I'll rip the exhausts off and it'll sound like 300 horses on half throttle:D

Was thinking of 3.5 efi out of a sd1 vitesse 190 bhp 220 lbft in the last 1986 cars. Or try a small block chevy, if you have an understanding wife/bank manager:D

There's an LT1 350ci sbc for a camaro on ebay for £250 at the moment - 5.7l, injection, ali heads, good for 275 out of the factory with 350+ ft lbs torque. You can convert 'em to carb easily but a lot of people plumb em in with the original ecm. You can buy a complete LSI with tranny for $2000 if you look in the right places too and that's a serious lump!

Got a 7.2 lite V8 (440cu) in the shed but cant get a gearbox for it and I think there is a small crack in the base of the block but it was running recently. Should be good for 380bhp I think

can it be welded?

i thought you could put just about any engine and box together with a conversion plate/bell housing

Can be welded yup, but need a flywheel as it was auto and a gearbox so a bit out of my league as far as expense goes I'm afraid. may make a coffee table out of it and lift it in the house with a hoist.:D

was reading a landy mag and a fella in there has the details of a man who can make anything fit to basically anything, dunno what cost but it might be worth a phone call!
