Freelander V8 conversion

One of the troopers on MGR is working on a 260 ZT

From the look of the pic a V8 could slot nicely into a freelander engine bay, with few mods on mounting points perhaps?

come on LR - yu know we have discussed this before!

a V8 is in-line - not transverse - so it would mean ripping up the tunnel, replacing all the suspension and brakes etc - let alone gearbox n stuff.

I know but I can dream..... nothing as sweet as the bass note of a V8

Just have it rear wheel drive then, run a prop to rear diff... sorted

wot - rear DRUM brakes - yu wud be mad! - 220 nutting is happening - will only take place (Poss) if I can pick up a blown 1.8 for silly munny


The only way seems to fit a hippoo body onto a lr chassis - well modified!

Too much like hard work - go fur a Mondeo special - it wud be cheaper

Already mentioned the Gallaway rear disc brakes for the FL. They were NAS aftermarket/spec

my point woz - get a hippoo - chuck away suspension, drive train, braking system - reinforce chassis - to have a 2wd tank that cartwheels at first corner

sounds like fun

i still reckon a 2wd 350bhp T series lump with the rear drive removed up to drive shaft cv's would be lighter and betta - maybe wudnt sound so nice - but would be easier, cheaper - and more "original looking" sittin next to ya at the traffic lights

Anything over 200horses will just give massive understeer on a front wheel drive hippo.

When stationary at the traffic lights on a wet road you could stick it 3rd or 4th and it would still spin the wheels

because there's no way you'll get 200+ bhp to the ground in a fwd car, weight transfer and all that.

dont know what experience you have with the T-series MHM, BUT to get 350 gee gee's is VERY expensive! when i say expensive, im talking 5-6k expensive!

because there's no way you'll get 200+ bhp to the ground in a fwd car, weight transfer and all that.

what a crock of ****! chassis/suspension/diff tweaks can easily combat weight transfer, although there is a limit, 200bhp doesnt even come close! you've been listening to jeza WAAAAAAAAY too much!

yup - i know - but a bog standard one is as good as you would need - and how much would it cost to convert a hippoo to take a V8?
