Mine's let me down this evening, 2011 TDV8, it's been playing silly buggers on odd occeasions abroad last week, this evening, went to go out, press start button, press foot brake, click. nothing. Tried several times, and it refuses to start, just a click from the back end somewhere. I had a similar fault on my 08 TDV6, it was a faulty earth from engine to chassis, any idea if this is likely to be the same sort of problwm? Battery drop test shows 14.6 volts, drop test on, volts drop down a bit but shows battery is good. Seems like I might have to call home start recovery in the morning. i'm just glad it went defective at home and not when we were abroad last week!

try putting jumper lead from battery - terminal to a metel part of the engine and see if its a bad earth

You shouldn't be seeing 14.6 anywhere while the engine is off. What was the voltage drop?

My bad, 13.6 I think, it's difficult getting my drop tester to the battery, it seems I have to dismantle half the car to change the battery on this one! i'll try the jump lea to the engine if I can fond a metal part on the engine, everything is hidden on these cars. I had a similar problem on a previous voguse, an additional earth strap sorted it. anyway, I've got home start recovery coming over to see if it's a simple fix. I've got no reason to think it's a starter failure as such. I can't measure the voltage drop when starting because it won't start. Voltage drop after test was still in the green bit, I'll double check in a while.

The other problem, not so important, I had the heater valve replaced a few weeks ago, got the aircon re-gassed. Heating now works as it should, aircon takes quite a while to blow cold air into the car, just very hot air when it's been in the sun all day. Driving along, it takes about 3 miles to blow cold. Any ideas on that one?
