W isn't sure, she thinks her mother and her aunt sent the pension books back when they found them in her handbag which they collected from the hospital when/where she died. They were honest about what they found and where. The authorities wouldn't have been able to claim much if anything back as she didn't have much in the way of assets and she only rented her place.

This is like one of W's other relations. He went to join the army and discovered his surname wasn't his surname. Up until then his dad had hidden away his birth certificate and if it was ever needed had taken it to wherever in a sealed envelope and picked it up again in person.
This bloke I think is the one whose wife walked out leaving him with a baby, he then met and set up house with a woman who already had two kids by two blokes, they then together had a child of their own.
I think the lad in question was one of these who had used the father's name until he found out his father was one of the others!

I doubt if the low-level staff at the DWP have the wherewithal to deal with this sort of thing anyway. When I've had to contact them on behalf of others, including deceased relatives, the people answering the phone seem to have difficulty in reading the script on the computer screen in front of them, let alone activating an investigation. What happens is that about six months later you get an ominously worded letter from the equally ominously titled 'Recovery from Estates Division' with a load of forms to fill in and instructing you 'Do not distribute the estate'. Too late, in most cases. Not that any of my lot ever left an estate worthy of the name. If you ignore this, they send you another one a few weeks later and if this goes unanswered that's the last you hear of it.

There's no infrastructure left to get anything done. It doesn't bode well for any efforts to get money back off pensioners working on the side, or tax from people selling their old clothes on Ebay or Vinted.

My Mum died on a Tuesday, she had her Pension in the Post Office on the Monday prior ...

I had paid her gas bill at said P.O., nice lady at the DWP, said, aw don't worry about it then, I'll sign it off ...

The anger and frustration was immense. Since I bought it in May'21 on "pay as you go", I have topped it up precisely once. Then is was 10 p a minute. So I've used about 100 minutes since I bought it.
Now it is 35 p per minute and I had to download another "3" app, etc etc etc. This took AGES as nothing was obvious and I had to keep going back to do verification poop, and then the payment of £15 had to be verified by my building soc. :rolleyes:
All to have enough dosh on it for when I have to ring TLScontact on it on Monday.
If they really want me to use it and spend yet more dosh on it, why on earth don't they make it a bit more user friendly?

We just top up with a number on a receipt from petrol station local food shop garden shop tobacco stall every where you spend money do it

I suppose by this you mean "voucher" which I could have used if I had one.
Typically I thought it would have been as easy as it was the first time.But it was more to do with the way "3" is changing. And we know that "3" will be gone by the end of the year, although it won't matter as the phone, at least, is compatible with the later version or 2!

We just say which net work pay your money get a till receipt with a number dial that number on your phone .done instantly installed
