unspool the entire cable and cover the spool with lashings of engine oil. Wind in the first layer and then cover that in oil. Repeat until the entire cable is wound back in. Dont forget to oil the eyelet and crimp well too.

Just to make daft feel better........

If yer has a waterproof solonoid pack it aint waterproof. Pull the fooker apart and sling some silicoon in the joints cos when the water drains back out it leaves the mud behind and if you let yer ballast drive yer winch don't work after.

an stick some vaseline inside the soilinoid anorl - in fact iz good stuff to pack in any electrical joint that is likely to get wet.
