If you think that we are bias then why say that without going to the freelander bit and looking first.

Are they good, no, they are total ****e buy something else.

Mate go for a td4 , it is a BMW engine and a lot more reliable and cheaper to run dont listen to these other idiots their heads are so far up there arses its funny.

Hi!

I have a 2001 V6 Freelander ... bought second hand ...

I had some problems but they were my fault ...

Now it has 125.000km on clock and no problems (knock, knock, knock, ...) with VCU or IRD. Only mid propshaft bearings and breaks has to be changed.

OK! I have now new engine because I blow original one. Heater matrix leaking and in one moment engine was without coolant. And one head blow off ...

Other ideas? I am thinking to upgrade it on LPG and maybe next year Lift kit ...

V6 are a bit different then 1.8 and TD4 ... Plus as I heard after 2000 quality is much better ...

hgf - your fault? ok after 2000 - mine was a 2001 - still crap - sorry - expensive crap.

Kiwi - if "go for a td4 , it is a BMW engine and a lot more reliable" is tru - why dont yu just tell him to go fur an X3 or an X5 - totally BMW then?

Yep I see his point, my shocker bushes were worn and it was my fault, I should have changed them when they were ok, then they would never have been worn.

But my head is up my arse and I bought a disco, wish I had bought a freelander then I could have spent loads on changing axles and gearboxes and everything else that falls off them. What fun that would have been.

I dont fookin understand why people come on here for advice then still buy a load of total ****e, however people bought the allegro, maestro, montego didnt they.

I've had mine a while now and it's been perfect........apart from VCU failure, IRD failure, rear door leaks like @#!$ when it so much as threatens to rain, 2 doors will not lock with the remote, wiper linkages severly worn (one wiper actaully fell off to the side in the rain once), anti roll bar link arms failed, front brake calipers siezed, front ABS sensors keep working loose, passenger side window operating wire broken, rear brake cylinders leaking both sides and a few more 'nigglies'.

Apart from all that it's been brilliant - mind you this is a 1998 model.

As Kiwi44 says, the TD4 seems to be the best bet, mines an Auto which is very nice. Have a good read at all the proper advice on here regarding the petrols before buying. I personally would avoid them - it's not worth the risk. If you do buy a TD4, change the crankcase breather filter & valve pronto & fit an egr bypass, it'll transform the car if it hasn't been done. Again plenty of tips & advice on this excellent forum if you search around.

hgf on my V6 Freelander was my fault ...

I wasn't listening to a garage which sad that heater matrix is leaking and because of that lost coolant ...

No coolant leads to HGF ... Right? So this is also LR Freelander fault that I didn't believe to garage and change heater matrix ASAP?

I think this is my fault ...
