Interesting (to me anyway) fact about the P38 V8 with automatic gear box. We had one a few years ago (lots of issues) but the main one that lead to it's sale was very odd.
At it's last MOT I mistakenly asked the local garage to do a full service as I was short of time.
A few days later we started having starting issues and so I called in a breakdown truck, unfortunately for me he took it to his own garage instead of the one I asked him to and to cut a long story short after several hundreds of pounds and several weeks later I got it back still with starting issues.
So I listed it on ebay, very honestly listing all it's woes and got a few very small bids on it. The guy that came to collect was over the moon and towed it away, 2 days later he emailed me to say it was starting fine and someone had overfilled the automatic gearbox which was stopping it from starting. He had drained some of the oil and it was now fine.
Moral of the story I have never had a garage service a car for me since, and I will never buy a P38 again, in 6 months of ownership it spent 3 months off the road (various issues including suspension) , and cost me a small fortune in costs and loses.

Could have been worse, you could have had it longer.

Interesting, mine catastrophically failed three weeks ago. There was no warning, perfectly fine that morning, hosing out later in the day. It wasn't a plastic one though, problem was the seal and of course you can't get kits for these things nowadays...
