I can't find any record of a Hillhunter and I've tried various permutations of spelling.

It's possible to send and receive PMs without verifying an account which may explain why Hillhunter isn't showing up on the system.

Prize goes to gstuart! Want a job as a mod?!

Now, we don't know his circumstances but does anyone know how to get in contact with him and just check what the situation is? Sounded fairly genuine in his posts.

He only made two posts, from what I can see.

Cheers

It's because of situations like this that we have the 50 post rule for selling. I know lending is a little different but 2 posts isn't much to go on to get the measure of anyone.

Yes, you're right but there has to be a modicum of trust in the world and all the people I've met on here so far have been decent. We still don't know if the guy has skipped or it is just misfortune but he needs to be found to find out. The account must be linked to an e-mail address? Maybe if @RAW111111 had that he might be able to try and contact him again / find him on linked in or some other social media site. Google is a wonderful thing.

I'm not judging anyone, anything could have happened but this type of situation has a knock on effect to trust throughout the forum and tends to leave a residue of bad feeling even if resolved.

Hopefully someone will have a contact for them but email addresses are subject to the DPA.

I repaired a seat control unit from a Classic on a "No Fix No Fee" basis, shipped it back and the bloke disappeared. I'll not be doing that again.

At the risk of a little thread drift; I have this concept of something I call 'currency', which applies to many people in my life, and would apply here IMV.

Currency is something that's built up over time, it's a combination of trust, kindness, truthfulness, helpfulness, reliability and a stack of other things that combine to make the character of a person. Currency is occasionally called upon when the person you know f***s up, drops the ball, scratches your car, makes you grumpy or whatever. If they've enough currency then it doesn't really matter, they'll use up a bit but you know it's not really something they usually do. If they don't have enough then you'll look askance at them and perhaps you might allow them some currency on account, or you might assign them to the heap.

@blue beasty touches on this with his 50-post rule, and (as I'm sure others have) I had a look at Mr Hill Hunter's posts. He didn't intro himself, he's asked two questions - not especially politely - and he didn't report back or thank anyone for their help. He hasn't engaged with the group at all so overall he'd not gain any currency with me to start with. He may be a completely different person in the flesh (some people don't come across well online but they're entirely normal people when you meet them!), only @RAW111111 amongst us can comment on this, but for my money and based on what I've seen to date he's certainly not someone I'd be lending my kit to (not that I would anyway, as previously outlined).

That said @Grrrrrr & @RAW111111 do get considerable kudos for helping others, an admirable trait and one to be encouraged. For that reason if I were a bit closer and/or knew a bit more about the place I'd try and do my little bit to assist in the return of RAW's kit (I've read all Colin Dexter's & Reg Hill's books so I'm an expert detective :) but unfortunately I'm a few thousand miles away which means I'm somewhat hampered. However I'd like to think that a bit of judicious local research and assistance might reveal Mr Hunter; can you do a reg search in the UK, did RAW get his 'ph number (and can you search that?), he says he's got a couple of Rangies and as we all know how reliable they are he's likely to have had some contact with various associated people so here I'd just get on the 'ph and ask around. The photo on his profile shows a machine that'd be fairly distinctive in this country, it has to have been bought, or possibly sold by Mr Hunter and maybe someone will recognise it...

Perhaps I should just stop reading these novels, and re-read something from Eric Blair whereby there'd be all these cameras around, and the thought police would just get the guy like that!

You shouldn't give it out unless a criminal investigation but the forum could contact him asking him about his health and pointing out another member is trying to get in touch and could he ring him to let him know the status of his tools and / or project.
