Replacing the rear tub to crossmember support rail.

I replaced all of the spot welds with pop rivets.

You're not going to get it in unless you lift the tub at the back as has already been mentioned. A pig of a job :(
 
Aye I reckon I'll do that. And cheers mate, I guess that'll be the easiest way. I've already done the annoying bit so surely lifting the tub will be a doddle
Not so sure about that Mr Wolf. As you say, the outriggers might fall apart. :eek: It might be the start of a full rebuild :rolleyes: :)

Any advice on lifting the tub? Only bolts I can see that I still need to take out are the ones that fit the body to the rear outriggers (rounded off and rusted so they're getting cut and replaced). Is that the only ones and the tub should be able to be lifted enough then? Any tips on actually lifting the tub once they're out? Where's best to jack it up?

There are two brackets that bolt the tub to the chassis just below the bulkhead (behind the seats) I'll try to find a picture!
Hmmm, I think I would put a thick bit of flat timber across the rear floor between the chassis rails and gently jack it up from there.

Just noticed you didn't have a crossmember in the way to worry about when you did it lol. I've got the parts in now so keen to get it all sorted but I'm unsure about jacking the body up, the tubs never been lifted before (not by me anyway)

Yeah, my tub was off and rebuilt in the conservatory :rolleyes: Haven't done it the hard way :)
 
Here they are in the flesh (rusty iron) I've put a couple of red arrows on to point them out. You might have to zoom in to see them. It's a high definition picture so just clicking on it should do the job.

Important!
Is yours a CSW? ie does it have seats in the back?
If so, they may be bolted through the floor on to the chassis. Not sure about bench seats, but inward facing seats are!

Points circled here are where its still fixed to the tub. On each of the outriggers there's two of those brackets I linked above, then on the centre crossmember there's fixings that seem to be held in place by some sort of split pins. That's the only other areas I can see from the seatbox back

I thought you were working on a 110, but when I checked on your profile it looks like you have a 1987 90 :)
The brackets you've highlighted seem to be performing the same function as the ones on my 90 chassis.
By 110 hard top I presume you mean van back and so no seats other that the front ones :)

Aw that was my old one, didn't realise I hadn't updated it, I've had my 110 for about 7 years now. There's benches in the back but they're not fixed to the chassis in any way so yup pretty much just a van

Once the tub is completely unbolted, and the roof off, it is usual to just manually lift the tub and carry it away.
Two people can easily lift the tub of a 90, or maybe you will need more for a 110.
Depends how weak you are, I expect!

I'm not lifting the full tub off, I just need to lift the rear a few inches to replace the rear support. The less work I can do the better!

You may end up taking it off anyway, deal with all the rot spots underneath it.
But if you don't, that is fine. I was just informing you of the usual method.

+1 on the timber/jacking technique although possibly use 2 jacks, for stability?
