I agree there are better ways of doing things ecologically but they are not suitable for here.
It would help if food suppliers used less packaging then there would be less waste to dump. For eggs ample why do they sell a six pack of chocy bix in a plastic outer bag with each individual biccy wrapped in silver foil and a paper outer cover???? It would just take one of the big supermarket chains to take the lead on this and genuinely claim they have gone "green " and the rest would have to follow.

I think incineration is one method of dealing with it.
In our village in France you are supposed to take all your rubbish to various big bins, one type for landfill, another type for recycling where you don't put bags, you actually empty your yellow recycling bags into them or else, yep, they go to landfill! There is also a glass bin.
There is a place in the nearest town that burns waste to provide heat for public buildings and council properties.Hilariously the sign on the side of the unit bears the word "SCUM". The commune also supplies free compost bins. Our food waste goes mostly to the chickens.

Have to agree. We used to have to use bags, and we have to take our stuff along the side of the garage, out of a gate, around obstacles such as a big trailer and various vehicles before going down the communal drive to the road. It became much easier once we got wheelie bins, and we can usually get the bottle bin into the other green bin at the top, just to transport it, and do it all in one go. You just have to balance it right. :)
we have green bins but we personally dont as we have a large compost heap in the yard, but bottles arent collected or allowed in the waste you have to take them yourselves to local bottle banks

Our recycling information stresses this and does therefore ask everyone to help by washing everything before sending it for recycling.
I struggle to see how the householder is helping the ECO part of recycling by wasting lots of water and often "HOT-WATER" to get things clean for "recycling". There is a cost to both buying and heating my water, they want it clean they can ruddy well clean it at the recycling plant, they are making money out of recycling (don't believe anyone that tells you otherwise). Much of the ECO drive is all about pushing the costs of recovery down to the consumer, when smarter packaging would obvert much of the need in the first place. Re-usable/cyclable paper packaging rather than plastics would be a great step. ALL manufacturers and producers should be made to use recyclable only packaging. Plastics are a cancer that will NOT stop until the last drop of oil is taken from the earth. THEY (oil companies) knew exactly what they were doing, and the impact on the planet long ago. But avarice and "shareholder profits" are much more important than anything else it seems. :(

Just fly tip it - that is all that will happen.

Here you go.. mixture of glass/plastic/paper.
All sorted on site. Glass is made into smaller bits. Other items are bailed up
(Not my lorry but I have the same stuff on. My loads are so varied)

...that wimmins is the strangest creatures.
Earlier this week I says to HER..."Jewellers in the High St. are having a closing down sale 50% off. You might like something for Xmas?
She replied "You know what I like, dangly earrings in Amber would be nice."
So what did I do? I got a pair of said earrings on Wednesday, wrapped them up as a surprise gift for Xmas. :)
What did she do this morning? Went to the same jewelers and bought a pair of? Yup, you guessed it!
So my Xmas "surprise" (part surprise) is ruined in one fell swoop. :(
Not the first time she has done this either.
She once asked for a specific gift for her birthday (which I arranged to give her in the evening when we went out with some friends). So, not content with the other smaller "token" gifts given to her on the morning of her birthday in advance of the main event for the evening she goes out and buys a £300 leather coat and tells me "I thought you would like to buy be something special".
This behaviour really pi$$e$ me off.:mad:
Oh dear! Case of men coming from Mars and women coming from Venus!
Women hint at us then think we didn't get it, cos we usually don't, so they do "something about it".
Men try to be subtle and romantic, but wimmins don't expect it and it goes wrong or they take it the wrong way!

Summat that should be taught from an early age! Blokes don't even SEE hints, but they can occasionally do the right romantic thing, often badly, eg flowers from the petrol station, but they can try!

Over the years I have learnt to communicate and warn, that is all one can do. Hope you, or her, got your/her money back!

Nope... I spotted the ones she just bought in her Earring tray this afternoon so they are just "earrings" and not a gift from anyone.
Silly thing was that we HAD the discussion, she TOLD me what she liked/wanted "dangly/Amber" I complied. But Xmas gifts are usually meant to be a tiny surprise or confirmation not a "communicated in advance DEAD-CERT".
Anyway next year I am going to get her some furry pink slippers and a large vibrator. If she doesn't like the slippers she can go FCUK herself. ;)

I couldn't agree with you more! I am constantly saying that this is a very wasteful way of doing it. Their plan is that you use the water after it has been used for the dish washing, what doesn't seem to have dawned on them is that most people have dishwashers.

And that is exactly what is happening. Once they had closed our local tip, because they refused to pay the owner who did it superbly, a higher rate, then the next nearest is, assuming you have taken all your paperwork to get past little hitler, a 44 mile round trip. Now how can that be eco friendly? Sadly, it is our beautiful forests that are being abused.

If they need to wrap choccy eggs so they don't melt in your hand they could use rice paper, write to Kraft Foods, Merkinland and tell 'em ...

Oh dear!:(
I'd agree with you about the "not a dead cert" thing if I didn't know my step daughter who cannot stand any surprise of any sort. Her poor old ex-husband. For her 21st birthday he bought her 21 presents, all individually wrapped and presented. She hated it!:(
She can't read a book without reading then end of it first.
No two women are the same, just like blokes.
But if what happened to you happened to me , I too would go potty!
