Hi Guys.

Good morning.

I have bought some FORTE advance motor engine oil flush 400ml to run in the oil prior to my engine oil change. I have used this before and had very good results, no issues.

This will be the first oil change since owning my TD4 and it has full service history but with it been breathing heavy due to a blocked crankcase breather filter and the oil looking pretty dirty anyway thought doing this will be a good idea to clean her out, I know it's good and bad reviews with engine oil flushes but just wondered if anybody has done it on a freelander TD4.
My TD4 has 135k on the clock.

I am putting all landrover genuine filters back in already done air filter, pollen filter, turbo filter, will be fitting new oil filter and fuel filter next.

I have got 5w40 shell helix ultra fully synthetic going back in so a good oil. Its on offer too, plus ebay are doing a deal too with 15% off so got 10L for £49.28 all in not bad. Link below if you are interested.

Any thoughts on this engine oil flush would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Ross.

I don't bother with oil flushing these days. 30 years ago I did, as it seemed sensible. Modern oils have detergents in them anyway, so the internals of well maintained engines remain clean. I've heard a theory that cleaning additives could cause long term problems, which is another reason why I don't use them now.

The oil you got isn't a bad price.

I must admit that I tend to use Asda 5w40 FS oil these day's, normally buying it when it's on offer for about £12 for 5 litres. I'm sure it's made by Shell, as it comes in the same shape container, with identical wording on the back label.

Hi Nodge.

Yea its what I thought most modern oils today are brilliant.
I Just thought it was quite black the oil in my td4 and with the breathing issues thought I might give it a go.
I hope i dont regret it. I'm sure it will be fine though.

Yea it's a good price on that shell oil but as you say it's most probably the same as the Asda oil , ha, ha will be about right. Typically my luck. Oh well.

Once I get the oil and every thing changed she should be running 100% next is the auto gearbox, Ird and diff that's all going to be fun I'm sure.

Cheers.

Next service of both LR's i am going to be putting BG Engine Performance Restoration through them pre oil change

A chap I know swears by BG products and how good the difference is, in regards to oil I ordered some through Euro beginning of April and got a really good deal using an email discount code

I had the Mrs TD4 fuel sedimenter cleaned out also whilst the spanner man was under the rear arch maybe something to think about

Good luck

I stripped my defender TD5 engine last year, it had 120k miles on it and I was surprised to see that the sump was quite clean, no dirt or sediment sitting there at all.
If your engine has used modern synthetic oils all its life and been serviced regularly it will probably be pretty clean.
