Which door seal for new series door pillar with no lip

I'm replacing the old door pillar on my 2A 88", which has a lip for the door seal to sit against, with a new pillar that doesn't have that lip. I assume I can't get a new pillar with that lip but if I can it's not too late to switch so let me know if that's the case. If I do have to fit a pilar with no lip for the seal I understand I need to fit the newer type of seal as used on those hi-tech Defender ve-hicles. Is that right, or will a series style seal fit?

I don't see why a series seal wouldn't fit, they rivet on. The problems arise when you want to put the newer one piece seal onto the lipped type cos you either have to hit it with a mallet or cut the lip off.......guess which I did

Do yourself a favour and remove the lip. Fit a modern knock on seal and enjoy the dry windless drive.
Plenty about if you look on eBay. They are pre mitred at 90 degrees for the top corner of the door opening then it’s just a case of running them around the frame.

Oh, little tip; fill the joint between the van side and tub as it meets the door frame. It’s only a small gap just above the striker plate but park on a hill nose down and rain pours in. Prolly better using a squidge of panel joint seal.

There’s no lip on my new pillar so I’d like to use a knock on seal as I’ve heard they’re better. But what do I look for? Do I buy a door seal to fit a defender, or is it called something else? I’ve looked for clip on and knock on seal and so on but see loads of different options. ?

I used some old discovery seals on mine but then I'm not too precious about it .....but I am dry

I've seen a lot of advice to buy official parts because the britpart seals and so on are useless. Some of the original seals I've seen are £20-30 so I really don't want to buy something that doesn't fit. I've never fit a seal in my life so I don't know how interchangeable they are or how likely something I buy is to not fit at all. probably over-thinking it as usual

If you grind off the lip you can fit any seal really as long as it lets the door shut, it will involve a bit of trimming and a pair of tin snips is handy to mitre the corners and cut around the striker plate for the door catch.
See if you can get an old one from somebody and have a go then you can decide if its worth the expense getting new ones (I've already decided). If you cut the lip off it doesn't really stop you putting series type seals back on later.

Now that is just not true! They may be better than the series version but they are not that good, it still remains a land rover.

It’s called a series door upgrade door seal. For a reason.
The only downside is they are one piece so if you fancy invading central Africa one Sunday afternoon it’s a pain taking the roof off.

If you are taking the roof off you may as well take the door tops off, and at that point you no longer need door seals so you take them off as well!

Yes but as one piece the door bottoms will be without anorl. You wouldnt want a draught just coz the roofs off.
