L405 Road sign recognition missing

I have recently bought a 2016 4.4 V8 Range Rover Autobiography with HUD and despite road sign recognition featuring in the owner's handbook, the facility is completely missing from the Driving Features drop down menu.Not only that but satnav doesn't show speed limits either. I want it to function for a planned Europe road trip.

You don't think paying attention while you drive is useful? Or learning the important road signs of the countries you intend to visit is useful? Lord protect us.
However did I manage touring Europe on a motorcycle without sign recognition.
Given the inherent unreliability of JLR electronics, even if it seems to work it may not flag up an important sign.

Aha, so that explains why the French drivers are all nutters!

Whilst it may be in the handbook, doesn't mean your model has this feature....handbooks are mostly generic and cover all features fro all models...and you then read the parts that are applicable to your vehicle.

My suggestion would be to contact your local dealer with the VIN number and see if it was indeed a feature of your vehicle...if it was then investigate further....

Sorry about this chaps and lady type chaps but feel the need to mention that other forum fullfatrr again, have a look on there @el-tel they have a l405 section you might find something on there (I wouldnt know, never look on it far to new for me). @Saint.V8 got it right re thick skin and @Tigger Eeyore & Roo is doing his best to get the L405 up there.

Mine’s a 2017 Autobiography, so both the hardware and software are different, but your ought to have speed sign recognition (which, while not flawless, is still damn useful), though even my 2017 doesn’t have a database of speed limits in the satnav.
Did you buy it from a LR dealer? It sounds like a software update might be in order. If yours hasn’t been done since 2016, it’ll be very out of date. The software is continually being updated and revised and this would definitely be my first course of action. I’d push for a free software update if you bought it from a main dealer.

Get a series. Then you never need to worry about speeding.

I know someone actually caught out like that with an aftermarket GPS, it missed the speed sign and 100 metres later he was flashed.

But, in a country where the police are obsessed with speed limits over everything else, it’s good to have technology help you out with the mindless robotics of looking out for speed signs, freeing up the driver up to do the more important things - like not driving into stuff!

If you can miss a road sign, you can also miss a child an animal or a pot hole, concentration and observation semms to be sadly lacking in most drivers. You could always buy a Tesla, put it on auto pilot and do something more interesting while it speeds into the back of a truck on the motorway.

Yep, seems like every "advance" made in motoring these days is designed to make the driver lazier and less-responsible
