L405 Road sign recognition missing

I have ridden tens of thousands of miles around Europe and the UK on motorbikes, one of the biggest dangers is car drivers not paying attention. Just what are you occupying yourself with while the unreliable vehicle electronics save you the trouble of paying attention to the road ahead?
I have done advanced rider training, we were taught COAC's thats Concentration Observation Anticipation & Control, vehicle control and self control, if you cannot be bothered to pay attention and see signs, what else do you miss?
I know that sign recognition is not 100% reliable, none of this stuff is. For example a recent Tesla accident on autopilot, faint road markings led the computer to become confused between the road and the slip road, the result was that it hit the concrete dividing barrier killing the driver, who, like you thought it was OK not to pay attention. It's got feck all to do with not liking gadgets.
 
You have made a number of assumptions about me here. FYI, I’ve ridden motorcycles since June 1980 and passed my advanced motorcycle test in 2014, so I’m pretty familiar with motorcycles and the dangers of inattentive and downright dangerous drivers.
I’m not justifying speeding and I’m well aware that it’ll instantly fail an IAM test, but let’s spend time on the more important stuff, if a dumb computer can be left to get on with some of the dull basics.

Am I missing something here. I can't for one minute think that anyone with speed sign recognition stops looking at road signs. I can understand not going out of your way to have it fitted but if your vehicle has it, and as long as you use it as an aid and don't rely on it I don't see a problem. Every day on my commute to and from work I have cars undertaking in bus lanes, motorcycles filtering left and right, push bikes doing what they like, and sometimes it would be nice to be able to hit a rewind button and see what I had missed.

I know this is an old thread but I'm here having searched Google for exactly the same thing on my L405 - speed limit sign on my dash and I cannot understand the amount of flak you encoutered for asking the same question but most likey just because you own a RR (or did).
The reason, 2am in a dimly lit built up area out in the sticks, lamp posts some distance apart and wondering if I was in a 30 or 40 limit.
Crawling along at 30ish for some distance with a car close behind me, constantly looking at the road, speedo and for non existant road signs. And I know for sure that I wasnt really concentrating on my driving because I was more fearful of getting flashed.
In fact I eventually saw a 40 sign so the car behind me was probably wondering why the dipstick in front was driving so slow which probably wound him / her up as well.
I just dont get it, Datatek taking the opposite view to yourself on just about everything you said and a complete jerk in my not so humble opinion.
Anyway, rant over and wondering if you ever found a solution??!!

How ever do us old timers manage without these modern gimmicks?
 
@Peed_off If you really need a feature like that, get WAZE instead. That will show regular speed limits, and also temporary restrictions due to roadworks, average speed check areas, etc. Also as it uses GPS & real-time data, it doesn't matter if the road signs are lit, good, bad, ugly, damaged, etc.

Thanks, I will look into WAZE.
 
WAZE is brilliant I think. If you car has Apple Car Play it connects up and talks to you as you go along, and pings you if you're speeding.

That said, if I'd bought and paid for a feature like road sign recognition, I'd want it to work!

Sadly, I’ve had to switch the “Ignore” feature on for Datatek now.
I still have my L405 (after nearly 6 1/2 years!) and I recently had this problem myself, although I also lost Emergency Autonomous Braking and it turned out to be a dead front facing camera - on long term back order with LR now 🙁

My forward facing camera's (the MK 1 eyeball) have never failed to trigger emergency braking although they do need calibrating from time to time. :vb-party2:
