Hi guys i have a 2001 freelander 5 door and the roof headliner is well (fooked) so am looking to replace it so basically dose anybody know where i can get one from i know Rimmer bros sell them new but they are like £500. Also i noticed water seems to be coming in and filling up in the duckets above tailgate door and splash out when driving around? i noticed this as half of the headliner has been cut away from the tailgate exposing the roof of the car. I have been told it could possibly be from the roof rails as the rubber on them is heavily perished so could that be a cause? So far my restoration has cost over £4500 hahahaha lol but am looking to spend a lot more as i love this car.

It's really expensive to buy a new headlining, so if you want to replace it cheaper, you'll need to recover the card with headlining material, which is actually pretty cheap to buy by the metre (£10 per linear metre).

I'll be doing my own in the summer.

There are several instructional videos on YouTube, that show how it's done. ;)

If you can see the roof, does that mean the card has been cut back as well as the lining?

If that's the case, then you will need a new card ('base') for the lining. The best thing to do would be to get 1 from a breakers. You might be (very) lucky and get one with the liner still firmly attached and clean, but with the card out of the car, it may be worth replacing the liner anyway.

Don't be tempted to try and replace the liner with the card still installed in the car - it will be a naff result.

If the hardboard is damage, then it'll need a replacement. I missed that part of the OP.

I would re-line it, as it's likely to disintegrate soon. The roof lining material only has a life of about 10 years, before the PU foam crumbles and the lining cloth sags.

It's basically impossible to do it in situate.

I've done a few over the years. It's not a difficult task, but does require time and a full day to complete correctly.
