Hello, I’m reaching out to the good knowledgeable folk of landyzone for help/advice/wisdom....my 05 td4 auto is seriously lacking guts throughout the rev range, had it into a specialist recently who couldn’t diagnose anything or had any clue except fuel starvation somehow.

The things I’ve changed are:

MAF
MAP
Silicone hoses
Fuel filter and pump (twice)
Full service incl PCV mod
Turbo and turbo actuator
All 4 injectors

I’ve read every single word of the thread regarding ‘lack of power at 70mph’ and I think it’s safe to say I’ve replaced everything that others have tried to cure theirs....one thing the spec did mention was ‘is the fuel filter in the right way’?

Also, has anyone changed the centre section exhaust as I think it could possibly be a blocked Cat, it’s on 96000miles, your help (if it cures it) will be greatly appreciated?
 
Was the MAF a genuine Bosch unit?

Make sure the vehicle actually has an issue, as the TD4 is hardly sprightly, and positively slow in auto trim, with just 70 Bhp per ton.
 
Thanks for the quick response, yeah, the MAF is a genuine unit (at least the packaging and the price of it says it is). I didn’t think they were great at any kind of performance but with his opinions it kind of fits...first start/run from cold is terrible, really slow, when warmed up it isn’t really much better, it seemed better when had the injectors done but now is just generally sluggish, it hates hills! What’s your thoughts on replacing the centre section, worth a shot or try a new MAF?
 
Sluggish acceleration when cold could be down to glow plugs, or thick oil. Like I said, it's not a powerful engine, and is affected by oil drag when cold.

Mine is also noticeably more sluggish when pulling away from cold. However once warmed up, it's acceleration in first and second isn't too bad, at least not for a 1700 Kg vehicle with just 112 Bhp available.​

I'd go through the live data and see if there's any anomalies, like low high pressure fuel pressure or low output of the MAF.

Out of curiosity, has the inlet manifold been cleaned of its built up goop, as large accumulations of goop will affect performance.

Also it's wise to replace all the vacuum pipes, as those pinhole which affects boost.
 
Thanks for the replies....the other day I noticed a different noise than usual, when pressing the accelerator from idle I could hear the turbo whistling, followed by a sort of gargling noise, lifted the bonnet and pressed the accelerator again and could see the intercooler hose flattening (left hand side intercooler pipe as you look from the front)...any ideas?

A flattening boost pipe shows a blockage on the turbo side of that hose, or the turbo compressor has stalled, which will require a replacement turbo.
 
Right..think the problem may have been solved, took it to independent garage to look at, they diagnosed MAP sensor and noticed the inlet manifold was very heavy at the bottom end, so cleaned that too...didn’t work, same as before, went in for an MOT a month later, got chatting, they tempered the amount of money spent on it so said they would have a look at no charge. They said the air temperature was measuring -40
and could be the air temp sensor or even the engine coolant sensor, I bought both, replaced the air temp first and all seems well, maybe those suffering could have a go, less than £20 delivered!
