Hi all, Im rather new to working on my freelander and so have searched this forum and my newly purchased freelander manual for vacuum piping and boost solenoid and a few other terms but as my knowledge is limited, Im not 100% sure what term to search for to identify the "controller" or solenoid in my vehicle.

In Pic 1, of my engine bay and I see the turbo boost control solenoid as highlighted... but then I saw another solenoid cable tied to a pipe in the front of my engine as in pic 2.

What confuses me is that in a thread on this forum, I saw a pic of the Turbo boost control solenoid and it has 3 connectors where the vacuum piping connects to it as in Pic 3, but on mine, the solenoid only has 2 pipes connected with the 3rd connector left open and then a 2nd solenoid with 2 connectors and 1 pipe connected and the other connector open.

My questions are:
Is mine connected right?
what is the 2nd solenod? is it even a solendoid?

many thanks for any advice and help, I am willing to do research etc so even if only pointin me in the correct direction, I would be very grateful.

PIC2: This is the "solenoid" I am trying to identify and figure out if its correctly connected

PIC3 - This is the example pic in a thread her on the forum that makes me think my Solenoid isnt connected correctly

PIC 1 - This is my turbo boost control solenoid that seems to be connected partially

Picture 2 shows the EGR control solenoid valve, in the correct location.

Picture 3 shows the boost control solenoid, although it's not mounted correctly (upside down).

Picture 1 shows what looks like a boost control solenoid (but could also be an EGR control solenoid), but it's not even mounted in the correct place on the engine.

Thank you so very kindly for the response. I will have a look at the manual and do some more research on the EGR and Turbo solenoids and see how I can fix it, I know my EGR has been blanked off, so will have to see if it changes how that all works.
thanks again for the help, its very much appreciated.

The Freelander 1 as tow solenoids the turbo boost solenoid which as the connection pipes as pointed out in the photo below.

The EGR solenoid which also connects to the brake servo only as two connecting pipes and a little black box pic below.

In your photo one the EGR solenoid as an hose missing which should join up the servo one way valve, as in the photo's below, these hoses can chaff and need replacing, do your brakes feel hard to press?

Where the EGR solenoid resides on the engine 9x10 the bracket as broken so they tend to lie on the engine yours as been dragged forward? the yellow dots show the solenoid fitted in its proper place, the blues dots shows the hose that fits to the EGR, & the green dots the longer hose that fits to the one way vaccum hose.

If you fit a new long hose this is how it should be routed.

This is how they can and do chaff.

Remove the manifold and get the hose sorted out also fit the solenoid to the engine safely save it flopping about.

fix it to the fuel line bracket or cable tie it safe.

I know my EGR has been blanked off, so will have to see if it changes how that all works.
The EGR solenoid valve has been unplugged from the vacuum pipe (this stops it working, but it's not blanked). The valve has just been left flopping about in space. The solenoid valve should be bolted to the block, like I've arrowed red in the picture (note inlet manifold is removed for clarity)
Hope this helps.

Wow!!! This is abslutely incredible information! thank you very, very much, what a great explanation!
And thank you for taking the time and effort to post this, I really appreciate it.

thank you also very kindly for posting this help. I am overwhelemed with the kind assistance. You guys are fantastic! :)

Just wanted to thank everyone for the assistance and advice so far in my little project.

As you will see from the photo, the Manifold is out, the EGR is also separated and removed. Man! that made a mess when I cleaned it.

The fuel pressure sensor harness is arriving tomorrow along with the turbo breather and the manifold gaskets, so tomorrow evening will be reassembly.

I put tape over the exposed ports when the manifold came out...I can't imagine anything good happening if something gets inside there in between now and tomorrow evening when I replace everything.

Hope everyone has a great day/evening.
Thanks again for all the help :D

The piping is wrong in that picture.
Thanks Nodge, It is indeed incorrect as per yours and Arctic2's advice, once I receive the fuel sensor harness tomorrow, I will be going through your posts again to see how the piping needs to be rectified before returning the manifold and EGR.

I plan to get the EGR Solenoid back to its position as best as possible, and then Ill look closely at the posts above to trace the piping before reassembly.
thanks for mentioning it, I appreciate the checks and balances ;)

Hi guys, I have searched this forum and google for a picture of where the 3 cables from the Fuel rail pressure sensor loom plug into the ECU, I bought a new one and opened up the ECU box in the engine bay to unplug the 3 old cables and add in the new ones. the only problem is all the threads here say just trace your old cables by color and replace them.
I think the mechanics that have been working on my Landy for the last few years have been doing some half shod jobs, because in the ECU section, there are 2x Brown cables with a green stripe and no Black cable with t blue stripe for example.
So I cant trace where the 3 cable have to go, can any one assist as there are not photos or diagrams I have seen on the forum that will help me locate those 3 cables in the ECU

thanks in advance gentlemen.

Here's what the ECU looks like - (ECU1)

Here's why I'm confused and unable to trace the 3 wires - (ECU2)

Apologies for the American spelling of Colour.
