Central locking ? Does it or doesn’t it ??

Evening all,
I have finally gone back to a defender I picked it up today and collected the canopy on the way home (couldn’t have worked out better). My question is does it have central locking? the chap I bought it off says he bought it with a fob that had buttons on it but lost the fob as he never used it. Is there a way I can work out of it has it or not ?? 2008 plateThanks

If and a big IF, there would be a button on the dash in the centre somewhere for locking. Is there a little red light in the middle of the dials. If that the picture of the new land rover I wouldn't worry about a fob more the chances of the thieving community finding new ways to steal your pride and joy.

If it’s got electric windows then it’s probably got central locking.

My TD5 XS has central locking but no button on the dash, the inside door lock buttons lock the doors, on defenders without central locking the fob was to activate the imobiliser and alarm, so worth having.
Try locking the doors from inside and see what happens.

Central locking works on the key, as well as the fob. Check if the passenger door has a keyhole in the handle. If not, it has central locking. Fob is for activating the alarm as well as locking the doors. Key locks the doors without activating the alarm. Immobiliser activates after a set time after the key has been removed from the ignition with or without the fob. BUT - the fob has to be near the ignition switch (hanging off the ignition key) to deactivate the immobiliser to start the car. If you can start without the fob, it has probably been tampered with and needs investigating.

I’m figuring it doesn’t have central locking then as there’s no electric windows or button but there is the red light that flashes when I take the key out the ignition.
It is being data tagged next week to hopefully aid in the prevention of anyone pinching it and an after market alarm installed . Thanks again

They don't have a "button". They do have a fob which is needed for the immobiliser. You need to investigate as I think the immobiliser has been bypassed. Data tagging will not prevent it getting stolen, look at things like pedal lock and steering lock, these will deter and slow down thieves.
