Got drips of oil from the engine oil cooler. Has anyone had a cooler leak or is it more likely to be the pipe connections? Impossible to see the source but looks like it is coming from the corregations on the cooler body? Is it joined or one piece? Thanks.

OK thanks I'll check the hose connections and if not that then remove and apply compressed air to the closed off oil chamber!

It is leaking from the join between the hose threaded 'block' and the actual cooler. Can't see any fixings so guess it is capoot. Anyone got a spare for sale??

Got one from Germany for £40. Wonder why that bit has come loose? Looks like an aftermarket one that is leaking as it is silver and not black as the orig seems to be.

Thanks Nodge. Not expensive but 50%of price of car!!!!
Ouch.

That's not a bad price. :D

I expect it's got knocked or caught with a jack when work was being carried out. They are quite vulnerable on the side of the sump.

Some are like that, and some are silver. I wondered that very thing myself. My old one was black, and the replacement was silver. If you look at used ones on Ebay, you'll see some black and some are silver.

Did this job this morning. New engine oil cooler. Fitted hose clamps to water pipes and drained engine oil. Lucky I did this first as when I unscrewed the oil pipes both aluminium threaded blocks broke away from the cooler!! I sometimes check all bts can be loosened before draining fluids! That would have ruined my shirt!! O rings were in good condition so I tightened them sparingly. I think the PO had being trying to stop the joints in the block leaking thinking it was loose unions and by tightening them they made it worse! First job on the 2 post lift. So much easier. Then one button press and adjust handbrake. Arhhhh heaven has arrived!!

To close this thread out - a photo of the very poor quality, unmarked oil cooler that spat its connection blocks out just by touching them.
Hardly surprising, there is nothing holding them in!

Not that it has to hold any pressure in .....does it !!

So what we have ere is a cr*p quality aftermarket part which could suddenly p*ss engine oil so quickly most owners would end up damaging the engine.
