Hi guys,
Lost the only keyfob i had.
Managed to get a brand new one on ebay but how am i going to get the blade cut ?
Also, I assume i can just sync the brand new one the same way i could sync my old one, or am i missing something ?

Welcome! I too have only one fob at the moment, the only option is to purchase one from the main dealer. You cannot sync a new/used one sourced from elsewhere, not even a 'blank'

Hi,

According to the image posted the one I bought is from the main dealer, so I hope i can just sync it.
But then presumably I need actual blade code from a dealer so I get it cut to the correct profile to get it to work in the ignition ?.

Ok you maybe lucky if it’s a main dealer key. You never said that you said flea bay:)
It should sync up ok it’s as long as it’s key 4 for your car the blade should already be cut to fit.

Sync as per owners handbook.
Key 4 may not give all the other key perks if I remember.

Oh please get rid of your address and vin from your pic:)

Good luck

No problem. Put a pic of the key it’s the numbers/address you shouldn’t really show.

Enjoy your holiday glad you didn't choose sunny beach. Think it’s a smaller place, bit less rabble, more relaxing.

Never been, enjoy your time.
please let’s us know how the key works out and stick around it can be fun sometimes :D

The new key is Key 4 but I think you are right as the new fob has already had it's blade cut for another vehicle so it won't turn in the doorlock or the ignition.
It flashes when inserted into the ignition but does not sync so will not lock/unlock on the fob buttons.
I still have a blank blade as i re-shelled the old one before i lost it.
I foolishly thought that I could get the uncut blade cut somehow and then re-shell the new one so i could lock the door and turn the ignition and that the car would sync to the key.
Live and learn i guess.
£200 + from Rimmer bros unless you know of anywhere cheaper.

Well folks, easiest thing to do was bite the bullet and I ordered a new key 2 weeks ago today from dealer.
Chased them up twice and today they say it is stock after waiting 2 weeks and they apologised for not calling me to say it was in stock.
Now waiting for them to confirm when it has been posted !
They mentioned "do I want it coded ?"
I told them as far as I am aware the blade will already have been cut and the fob coded by Huf and all I need to do is sync it by sticking it in the ignition switch as mine is a 2000 and has the smart sync.
Is that your understanding ?

£200 new key arrived fron Huf via main dealer - guess what - does not fit the door lock or ignition lock so cannot be synchronised either - I give up

You can get the blade cut from any good locksmith. Well know Range Rover forum member Marty will soon sell keys I hear, so here is the future solution.
Main dealers in the US and Central america don't sell keys now so forget theat. Even Bearmach can't order them now.

But, you can happily live without a working remote in a p38, did so myself for 6 years. Disable the alarm and immobilizer and make sure your door locks ( also sold by Marty) work perfectly. Then you can always mobilise it using EKA if it suffers from Alzheimer. Set your EKA to something nice, I tend to ask clients what they would like and it will always start.

Thanks for that but the only fob I had was lost which is why i had to order a new one from dealership.
Hence i have no keyblade that a locksmith could use as a pattern to cut a new one.

So can we recap a bit here.

You have 1 key from flea bay ordered on your VIN that don’t work.
You now have 1 more key from Huff ordered on your VIN that don’t work.

Do the two new keys have the same blade, look close?
Has the BECM,ECU or lockset been replaced at some point in its history?
Get a blank cut to the original and try sync with new fobs.

Do you have barcode labels on both new keys? If yes then I suggest you speak to @martyuk
You maybe out of action for a while but it will be a good ending.
Get 2 more blades cut and you will end up with 3 working keys.

Good luck.

Edit ok read back and you have no original key blade. New lockset then with blades in new new fobs might work ok.

hi,

The fleabay key was sent back to the guy i bought it from for a refund.
The new key came via Albert Farnell in Nelson - ironicall the same place the fleabay key came from originally.
I have no blade to use as a pattern because the original key was lost, so I have no idea what the cut pattern is.
Car has had 12 previous owners so anything is possible.
the last 6 digits of the vin number match the 6 digit number on the packet the key came in.
