We had the case that a key was lost in the garage. So we had to go to a locksmith 140kms away and he could make the key from the barrel and with the barcode I read from the BECM and confirmed by Bearmach.
Yes it worked. But you can't use the door lock for a pattern, you need to take out the ignition switch.

Ah,
that's very useful to know, Now i need to find someone in the uk to do that once i take the ignition lock out. Thank you.

The door and ignition locks are identical because the original key worked both.
I was thinking of swapping the glovebox cylinder over to the door lock but that still leaves the ignition lock.
The curious thing about this is that the new blade does not work with the glovebox lock either which makes me question why would someone bother swapping the glovebox lock as well as the becm and door and ignition locks ?
Perhaps JLR have sent me the wrong key after all.

If you keep ordering keys using the vin and they are not correct then you need to speak to Rick the pick at callrova google them or martyuk on here...
Just to add both were superb at helping us with a customers car...

Ok will do.
There has been a slight development this morning in so far as the fob will lock and unlock the car so has sync'd to the vehicle but the keyblade does not work in any of the locks i.e. door, ignition or glovebox which I thought would be impossible if the key was cut to my vin and correctly coded by Huf to my BECM ?
I have left the dealer 3 messages to call me back but they have not responded at all.

Some progress. Dealer says lockset must have been changed in the past but they have no record on their database. So at least i have s working fob.
Bought a secondhand lockset with key so can swap the blade onto the new fob and fit the doorlock. Trouble is how do I remove the ignition barrel as i cn't turn it to position 2 in order to be able to press the detent lever and remove the barrel ? Driil the level through the aperture in the lock housing or get a hu71/hu109 lockpick ?
The key blade apears to be the same as my bmw e39 hu58 keyblade as the hu71 does not have the central groove.
If i got the ignition barrel out in one piece i could maybe swap the wafers about to match the original blade if i also got a wafer set.
Wonder if the BMW A-13-103 wafer set would work ?

Decided I couldn't wait for the lockpick to arrive, so fitted the secondhand driver's door handle and lock, swapped the keyblade into my new fob after driving out that tiny roll pin and drilled out the ignition key barrel and fitted the secondhand barrel.
Car up and running again :)

Hi guys,
Lost the only keyfob i had.
Managed to get a brand new one on ebay but how am i going to get the blade cut ?
Also, I assume i can just sync the brand new one the same way i could sync my old one, or am i missing something ?

There are a number of points here that need clarity because quite a few of them are "urban myths"
100% compatible fobs are available for the P38 Range Rover
There are a few options available to cater for different situations, I'm sure that most members will agree that it is not a subject to be debated in depth on an open platform ( security risks).
We can offer assistance to any P38 owner, no matter what region of the world they are located.
I will only discuss the options via private message, even then anyone seeking info will first have to send a copy of a current logbook/ title document for the vehicle they are enquiring about.
Thing are getting easier & lost keys are not the disaster that a lot of people think. You don't need to take out a mortgage to pay for it & you don't need to rebuild half your car by fitting locks, clocks & BECM either.
unlike the info I see posted that Landrover will now only supply a replacement Key No.1, you can have any number of keys 1, 2, 3 or 4 from us
