Plug for tow bar electrics.

I read on this forum some of you talking about fitting a non LR tow bar. Well I have just done that and I have the electrics to do at the week end. I am not very good with the electrics.

Some one talked about a plug in adaptor that you can buy for about £12. Can any one let me know where to get one?

Thanks for that. Is there a diagram or Freelander spesific instructions available?

The instructions that I got with it were very general and not much good to a non machanic type like me.

I will have a go though, is there a lot of damage that I can do if i go wrong?

the very worst that could happen is it catches fire

its a straight forward job if you know which colour wire from socket goes to which lamp,

if you cut off the LR fitted socket(which is found tucked away in the offside pannel near boot light) and terminate useing a connection strip (chock block), then identify the wires , either using multi meter or wiring diagramme, and its a simple matter of connecting in your new trailer socket

Depends who yer ask. If yer go on Difflock they don't like us at all. Can't think why.

Thanks to every one for your help! My tow bar is now firmly attached to the back of my trusty Freelander. And all the lights work just fine.

just phoned stealer up in chester for price on aux socket + wiring to add to my towbar........................

£112 +VAT!!

yes its a lot for a socket, bit of cable and LR plug to patch into the wiring loom ,
but its a quick way of installing and no messing about,

some of LR prices dont make sense

what you have to remember is some people are loaded and have more money than sense,

Can you get to LR towbar socket if you remove rear offside light or do you still need to remove inner panel to plug in ?

where do the bolts go in the chassis and is it an easy job as i want to fit a tow bar !!

You need to remove the rear offside inner panel to reach the LR socket. Its very easy to fit the tow bar, it comes with good instructions

the bolt holes are already in the chassis, offer towbar up and you'll see them...
dead easy!!

the holes are coverd by round paper stickers to keep the threads clean
