The SRS bulb has been appearing occasionally along with the airbag fault display. Software check by the garage said it was the drivers seat belt pre tensioner. The connections under the seat are all okay....what is it that "wears out" in the seat belt tensioner. (don't say the "pre" bit)

I have found several second hand units at a reasonable price but am wary of getting the same problem. New they are quite expensive....but it's new.

Anyone had similar problems or got any advice?

Thanks for that ....just what I needed to know.....I will explore under the trim and check the seat belt electrical connection is working etc

Somewhere it says the bits that go "pop" in the event of a prang should ALL be replaced after 10 years/every 10 years..
But the price of the replacements is astronomic for something that isn't "used" and is just waiting to work.
I don't know anyone who has not had a prang who would voluntarily be replacing the things.

The side airbags are useless, we slid off the road on black ice into a shallow ditch and the side airbag fired, it filled the car with smoke and the bag went into the rear passenger area by the knees! I repaired the blown stitching on the seat but did not replace the airbag, instead I created a doofer that fools the SRS ECU into thinking the airbag is there, I fitted one to the passenger side also.

I have seen the little resistor units to plug in to fool the ecu on the fleebay I was considering fitting one to mine as my wife being very short sits basically
touching the steering wheel and if the air bag went off she would be crushed.

I too am a shorty that sits "close", should I be worried?

Bruised & deafened, but not crushed, disabling the steering wheel airbag may leave you exposed to prosecution in the event of a fatal accident. I can provide details of the resistance required for the side airbags.
