Hi, I recently purchased a 2000 Defender Td5 with 106K on the clock. Everything seems fine and she starts on the button, however I have noticed a problem.

When I start it after I have recently turned her off it takes a few turns for it to start and when it starts the temp gauge goes a bit mad and it seems to have a misfire and is about to stop but then it's fine.

Thanks in advance

Do you know when the injector wiring harness was last changed?

.... the temp gauge goes a bit mad....
watch the gauge when you turn ignition on and if it goes high before it starts this can be the reason of hard starting cos it's managed by the ECU and if the ECU gets high temp input the fuelling is reduced, eventually give some contact spray in the temp sensor's and ECU's plugs... and +1 for the oil in the red plug cos there's the temp sensor's input too and oil acts as isolator in electric contacts
