About to change the oil seal on the drive shaft port side front. According to RAVE, the ABS sensor must be removed, but of course the sensor is as welded to the hole.
Question is: is it possible to pull the drive shaft without removing the ABS sensor or is this physical impossible?
New sensors are in the post a week away so if I can do the job without pulling the sensor, would be great.
Thanks for opinions.

I think the CV joint won't go past the sensor when trying to withdraw the assembly. And even if it did the chances of damaging the ABS sensor while withdrawing or re-inserting the assembly are high!

No, won't come out. All you can do is spray lots of Plusgas in there and scratch around the edge where the spingy thing the sensor slides into is.

I think @tomcat59alan drilled his out and before he replaced the sensor cut something away to allow it out in future.

The hub has an hole in it that the sensor goes through. You cannot remove the hub to remove the drive shaft with the sensor in place.

Thanks all.
Will have to destroy the sensor to get it out. New sensors arriving in a week, so have to drive without ABS in the meantime. Wasn't it what we all did in the good old days before anybody new a thing about ABS? Since i got the P38 7 years ago I have never had the ABS kicking in in summer conditions, only winter, and that is still two weeks ahead up here.

Hate to throw a spanner in, but changed both of my CV joints last week and both came out slowly past the sensors, one was damaged on the way back in but due to heavy hand not space as other is working just fine

Had to drill out the sensor. First encountered a hardened steel part in the middle of the sensor. Then used a 2,5 mm drill bit to drill a series of holes around the center part to get rid of the plastic stuff that is filling the sensor. Then the hardened metal came out (was a magnet) together with the thin copper wire forming the pickup coil. then the rest came out with some gentle persuasions.
After the hub was out i cut an opening in the metal skirt from the hole the sensor is going thru, so next time I do not even have to think about removing the sensor. Still waiting for the new sensor to arrive, so driving around with traction failure waiting for the first snow.

Unless your hubs have been refitted without reluctor ring shields it is not possible to remove them with the sensors in place. There should be a reluctor ring shield pressed on to the hub that the sensor goes through. This makes it impossible to remove the hub with the sensor in place. Maybe someone like Tomcat had cut a bit away to allow it out easier next time?
