Where Does One Loom Start and Another Begin?

Hi all,

I'm just in the process of removing and replacing the main loom in my 1980 Series 3. I've no reason to suspect there's any problems with the chassis loom, so will be leaving that where it is. Before I start pulling on the loom and pulling the chassis loom with it, where should I be looking to find the connection between the chassis and main looms? The chassis loom appears to be threaded inside the chassis rail.

Hopefully the new Autosparks loom has the same connections at its end as the existing chassis loom, although I suspect I could be wrong.

From memory, it is all one loom. And it is threaded through the chassis rail.

And you need to attach a piece of string or wire to the old loom, so you can use it to pull the new loom down the chassis rail.

It maybe that there are new arrangements on later looms. If that is the case, someone will probably inform you in due course.
 
There is a multi pin connector in the area of clutch pedal box on my 1972 ser 3.

I've just been outside, and sure enough there's two multi pin connectors, one for the engine harness and the larger for the chassis by the pedal box in the engine bay, which gives me much more confidence the Autosparks harness will arrive with the same connectors.
 
I would run the loom on top of the chassis, its on top until it gets to the seat area and it risky having the loom in the chassis if you ever get any welding done, very easy to forget its there.

I would second this, and have done this with both my series and 110 when I have replaced the rear looms. I put it inside conduit and then wrapped it in binding tape before running along the top of the chassis. I did it for ease of fitment and future access rather than welding. But one advantage is that is can be visually inspected and any damage rectified before a fault develops unlike internal chaffing in the chassis rail.
