Widening the track?

Jeep Wrangler axles (JK onwards) are wider

Wrangler JK track width: 61.9 inches

Defender track width: 58.5 inches

Most American axles such as the Dana 60 found under Ford, Chevrolet and Dodge pickup trucks are between 67.5 and 69.5 inches wide.

Here's an early wrangler on Dana 60's

The sound of 67 to 69 inches sounds much better, rough it out at +5 inches a side and I think we could be on to a winner.

Do you know if they run hardy spicers or CVs? I know a lot of the yank pick ups are part time 4X4!

No idea if tis relevant or not but wider track can be a real issue on rutted lanes.

I followed WLM round some lanes we were checking out for a meet and his tyres were riding the outside walls of the ruts. He had very little idea whether his front wheels were straight and every now and then his tyres would bite the top edge of the ruts and stuff his nose in the hedge :)

Not to mention narrow gateways and tight radius corners, as often found on Westcountry lanes.

What axles is he running on then?

Or is it a case of spacers and or massive offset rims?

I'm hoping not exceed the body by much if at all, but gaining 3 inches each side would still keep my wheels inside the arches of the Disco I think?

I still want to stay skinny on the tyres which will confuse many as they all end up gaining width outside the arches with wide tyres.

37's on massive offsets I believe, awesome in mud no doubt but quite a serious issue on narrow rutted lanes

That's some serious rubber!

What wheel and tyre combo are you running on the series if you don't mind me asking? It seemed to be getting you about in the snow over there over the bad weather period we had.

I am keen to try and stay with skinny wheels and the Cooper STT stand at almost 32" and only 9" wide which suit me but after the little girl lost her life I am 100% off spacers!!!

7.50 Deestone Xtra Tracks on standard rims.

You can still get 9.00s with fairly aggressive thread but they're not common and expensive

Did have a set of early disco steels wheels where the centres were removed and re welded giving a wider off set.
Did help with dad been a machinist
And always up for a challenge.

I think 101FC rims have a different offset to LR.

I have seen Disco steels with the centres flipped, there was a thread on it here somewhere?

I wasn't blessed with a parent who liked anything mechanical, dad was a builder :(

I on the other hand can't get enough of machining and mechanical engineering, electrics are a sh!t tho as I'm partially colour blind

I'd rather try and keep the allys as I like them and was hoping there had been an advance in spacing the swivel further out than just lumps of alloy on the hubs or mad offset steel rims :(
