The posted $45000 price reflects a build with a European spec Land Rover TDV8 diesel Range Rover motor, uprated turbos and performance bits, 6sp gearbox, 33" tires, performance suspension, and custom front/rear/side steel protection bumpers and steps that look stock but are very far from it.

thats a std D1 then

With today's exchange rate, $45000 is around £32500 which is what I paid twenty years ago for my D1, so if the D1 is rebuilt as new with the kit as specified it seens a bargain to me.
WOW! That's a lot of money twenty years ago. Twenty eight years ago I forked out £5125 for a brand new Renault 5. After a few weeks I thought, I've been far too extravagant here. :) Never bought a brand new car again.

This is the engine. Ford AJD-V6/PSA DT17 - Wikipedia

But I am more curious of what transmission he is using and how he is coupling it to the LT230? Maybe the Getrag MT82 from the 2.4 Puma and 2.2 Duratorque engined Defeneders? Even if he did I'm curious if they would comfortably handle 500nm torque let alone the potential 600+ from a twin turbo'd TDV8? Although the D3 used the Lion 2.7 V6 and offered a manual option that used a ZF S6-53 - Wikipedia Perhaps he is sourcing these from the UK?

I have emailed and asked for pictures of the drive train to see what special parts he is using, adaptor plates etc.

If it had been the gt turbo you'd be in profit now - minus inflation of course;)
It was the most basic one they did. Renault 5 Campus 1100cc. Sold it with 157K on the clock. Didn't use a drop of oil and the engine ran like a sewing machine. Cracking car for the money. The only thing that ever happened to it was the clutch cable snapped. It was a bit of an issue with them.

I absolutely loved my Renault Megane scenic 1.5dci. Bought it knowing the common issues they have so it wasn't a shock when I got them. Brilliant car, best value for money, most comfortable and longest I've ever owned a car. Wish I'd kept it still but there comes a time when you have to get rid.

Always loved them as a kid, Somebody on my estate has got one but it hardly ever comes out. There's a few interesting cars round here actually, but none come out often.

Clutch cables ALWAYS snapped on R5 GT Turbo's ! If it needed a clutch that was an engine out job !
A common problem then. I wonder if they upgraded them as I only every had to replace the original in all those miles. Second one was still fine when I sold it.

Yeah, they were fab. Which came first the R5 GT Turbo or the 205 GT Turbo? I'll guess R5

There was never a production turbocharged 205 fella, only 1.6 or 1.9 naturally aspirated from the factory. The MI-16 was a 16v engine they put in that came from the 405.

Our woman's uncle had the 1.6 205 and said it was rubbish but it would have been 20 years old, the 1.9 is apparently a lot better. I've got the modern-ish poor mans ford equivalent now - a fiesta st150. Same recipe as the mk1 escort rs2000 - rip a 2litre out of the current family saloon, chuck it in something small and light - power to the people! Just need a barn to store it in for 2 decades.
