L322 Which engine?

The td6 is the disastrous GM box as far as I know. It's not if it fails, it's when it fails. I think the tdv8 is a ZF box which are not unknown to fail but I think they're generally accepted to be OK.
 
The tdv8 is a more torquey lump by all accounts and the td6 is pretty much guaranteed 2-3k gearbox refurbishment by 100k miles.
A mate of mine has the tdv8 and loves it. Says it has more torque than the moon!
 
What about a 4.2s/c?
A bit heavier at the pumps but petrol is slightly cheaper and if the current war on diesel continues it might end up being cheaper per mile.
Also, when I've been looking, the 4.2s/c's all seem to be better specced than the tdv8 for similar money.
 
TD6 3.0 or 3.6 TD V6. and which has the better gearbox. Ta

TD6 has a GM chocolate gearbox but to be fair if it's been replaced with a good one and the valve body has been tested and had the sonnax kit fitted then it will probably outlive us both but I would still be thinking the later JLR vehicles providing it has been looked after. One of the disco diesels suffered with crank failure so not sure if that's the TDV6.

Depending on where you are hiding, after march or April 2006 you are into bigger road tax , £500 ish.
My next RR will be a 5.0 SC, but it might have to be in a next life :)

I'd opt for S/C, every frickin time, I H8 Diesels for giving 2/3rds of users 2/3rds of the potential fun of real manly mechanical willy waving!!!

Yes mate, I'm retired, since 1994, at the grand old age of 43. Getting hit by a rampaging lorry wheel on the M6 makes you consider your life options.;) I for one luv diesels.​

Oddly enough, I retired for the first time in 1994. Lasted 6 months and begged them to take me back. Wish I had stayed retired. Might only have been injured once, instead of three bloody times. Serves me right for not taking the money and going somewhere hot. :D
Now you know why I bought a Range Rover, I'm a sucker for punishment.
