What have you done to your Freelander today

Good news - Had the windscreen replaced on insurance today, loads of other chips so needed doing even before the huge crack.
Bad news - Screen guy checks the car before starting work ticking off existing damage, wheel arch... OK, drivers door... WHAT! Some sod has hit the car overnight or this morning, hopefully just a t-Cut job and I suppose I should be happy I own a car which isn't made of tin foil like my last one.

Had a bit of a search on this, agree with you on ABS pump.

Out of interest, the reader you have, is it like a hawkeye for landy's or a cheap one ? You have read the codes but still a mine field from the reading i have done, as have you.

I was on the understanding that, and I understand this is an audi, if I bought a Hawkeye I would know what was up with my vehicle.

I am in the market for a code reader, but your quote isn't 100% fix, if that makes sense.

Apologies for the late reply been looking up this fault code.

In Keeping with the fred, I drove home in mine after being away for 3 weeks :) it started first time, I overtook a RR on a dual carriageway, passed a broken down RR also, didnt knock my elbows against the door as I would if I drove a 'Superior' Fender, I didnt need to go off road, and the green oval badge was in my view all the way!
This is it. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vgate-Sca...ader-Scanner-Engine-ABS-AIR-BAG-/320915270924
Seems to be VAG only. As far as I can tell this is the fault but will need to confirm the exact model of ABS Pump to confirm if replacing it will fix the fault.

There seems to be a bit of an issue, can you reset the sensor ?

Sorry this is the edit: The issue is can this reader deal with a particular code, or general codes, the difference is £1600 quoted by op iirc, to less than 10% of this price.

From what i have read, there is within the ABS pump an internal sensor measuring pressure, this can fall out of range and a reset will cure. or it is buggered and a repair kit is available for around £200, delicate repair as I understand. Available at VAG dealers, though you need to take part number with you because the part number thet have is brand new pump at £1600.

Better to have your ESP working than not, mine was a 54 A3 2.0 TDI sport, new from stealership, never impressed by the service, always felt they were extracing the urine!

I always handed my A3 to a trusted Independant Mech, once the warranty was over, never got let down. never had horrendous bills. had the car for 14 years.

Another Edit: just got back home, had a few beers and spelling, grammar etc is ****, I know what I mean ;)

I've emailed the ebay company the details of my car, the ABS pump and the error codes. £200 isn't too bad if it fixes the problem. From what I've read there is no way to reset it.

Broken it. I managed to blow the high pressure fuel pump seals this morning. So now it's dripping fuel out the pump caps at an alarming rate. Hopefully it'll get me home, before I run out of fuel.
Not really a job I was planning on doing this side of mother in laws FL1 MOT. :(

Hope your insurance covers fire.

As you run it on max, it got to be a contributing factor. That and normal wear.
Mike
I did drop it back from max a few months back, after the gearbox started to complain.

Would you know if there is a setting that gives standard fueling, while still using the Peirburg MAF compensation?

@Nodge68
Setting 1 with MAF switch on, is low MAF compensation, and a small fuel increase.
Setting 6 with MAF switch on, is high MAF compensation, and a small fuel increase.
There is no option for MAF compensation only.
Mike

That's the way I understand it too. I'm currently running on 9, so will drop it back to 1 or 6 before the smelly drive home.

?
turn power switch 'off'
leave maf switch 'on'
( leave the 'setting' on one of the p.maf numbers 6 - 10 )
have run mine like that with the p.maf
all that changes is the feel of the go-pedal i.e. feels like standard tuning

sorry to read Nodge needs to dismantle the hpfp
hope the weather co-operates .. or u have a heated garage 'n pit ..
ditch the 'magic' .. use the 'rhino' ;-

On a positive note, it won't be rusting any time soon... ;)

Sorry to hear about the problem! Hope you get it fixed soon.

That's one advantage to the mess underneath now. It's also soaked my new lower arm bush, which isn't going help it last. So I'll need to clean that off at least. I'll leave the rest as a rust protector.

Interesting, my instructions make no mention of this. It clearly states you can run the tune without the MAF, but not the MAF without the tune. It doesn't say it isn't possible, but implies that the tune has to be on. Mine is an older unit, maybe they thought no one would want to run without the tune at that time. Things are different now with more options an gizmos you can get from them.

So I can run it with the power off but MAF compensation on? Does that work?
I set it to 1 or 6, I can't tell which because the knob is missing.
It was very sluggish on the way home I must say. The gearbox TCM was rather confused too as it kept changing up too early, only to change down again a second later. The box TCM has obviously adapted to the Synergy making lots of torque, which now isn't there any more.

I have a garage full of 1972 Averager GT stuff, so I'll be on working outside at the rear of my plot, near my workshop.
The pump seals and tool won't be here until mid next week. So I'll be in the wife's BMW E46 vert or the Kuga until I get it sorted.

I'll try the different settings and see what does what.

It's not pretty though.

I'm struggling to find a definitive answer. The tuning diesel website does contradict itself quite a bit. They also state that the MAF compensation for the Pierburgh must be on 6-10, but doesn't state if this is on a MAF only setting. Whereas the instructions state that if the MAF switch is on 1-5 is low, 6-10 is high (compensation)

I think give it a go. I doubt @hd3 is wrong, very unlike him to get mixed up.
Mike

Mine is an older unit, maybe they thought no one would want to run without the tune at that time.

yeah .. b'b'but .. maestro

synergy2 be mainly the older 'mafam' unit .. and ..
the 'synergy1' .. inside 1 box .. 1 on-off switch for either ..
so why shouldn't they work separately ..

anyhow they do do do ..
'cause have switched 'power' to "off" and kept 'maf' to "on" ..
( have never fitted a Bosch maf to it since 3 weeks after i bought it )
when i wanted to compare the effect of the intake mod ..
and the dgb1 module .. separately .. .. to .. ..
bog standard factory released fuelling setup no mods at all
i.e. to judge how effective each 'mod' was ..

you can use the pierburg maf With settings 1 thru 10
settings 1 - 5 basicaly ensure the maf signal is similar to the .. or a .. new bosch maf .. ..
the only thing the instructions mention .. is that ::
' some drivers found that .. with the egr deleted ..
and a pierburg maf fitted .. that setting 1 - 5 can also be used .. '

i've tried it .. small but noted difference between the two
