OK guys, I know the rules for Freelander 1 - same make, tread pattern and size, larger diameter on the rear.
Problem is this: my F1 has BFG A/Ts (KO suffix) all round. I bought them about 4 years ago and they've done me well. The spare is still new. However the fronts are now very close to the legal limit and that tyre model has now changed to the KO2 suffix. Am I still OK to buy new tyres for the rear and transfer my old rears to the front or do I have to stump up for 5 new tyres? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for that. I wasn't sure if the change in pattern would affect the front/rear axle relationship.
The diameter is important, not the tread pattern. I'd be surprised if the new KO2 are the same diameter as the old KO though. To be sure, replace all 4.;)

Thanks for your input, chaps. I actually ordered 2 for the rears this morning to be fitted tomorrow while the car's being serviced. I'll get the mechanic (long experienced Freelander man who knows about vcus and their little problems) to check the circumference when he fits them and we'll take it from there.
