Cheers fer that, there's a couple of local places that do BioDiesel. I'll be paying them a visit then.
Do you reckon the suggested ratio might cause damage in the long term, or only if I use more than 50% Bio?

To be honest I don't know, left nut. The best info I was able to find is on Diesel Bob Tuning - Vegetable Bob. They specialise in diesel pumps and, on a system of one to five stars, give common rail engines three stars for bio and an absolute no-no for veggie oil.

There are firms out there who will sell you a kit to make your own bio-d out of chip oil (OK not chip fat. I know now. Sorry). Involves centrifuging it but it's quite simple. See "biodiesel kits" on google. Problem could be that it's getting quite popular, and apparently there's even talk of exporting used oil to Germany, where they are running out of stuff to make their bio-d with. Some current suppliers are starting to worry about their oil sources.

Just come back from COSTCO (fao Yella ) , and i'm very sad to say they've put THEIR prices up too! Sods.
Worked out @ over 66p a liter in 20 liter drums whch is what i'm paying at The Asda in more manageable 3 liter bottles.

The search for the cheapest veggy oil will continue.
I'll have a werd with my local 'Luigi' who is in fact Indian , and see where he's gettin' his 'golden delight' from.


By the way you screaming beast ( Yella ) i even went into Makro, but the que to join up was just too horrendous.

However, i did see a sign saying that it costs 25 snotters p.a. to be a member, which if you simply want veggy oil, i would imagine makes it cost prohibitive.
They also want to know your full lfe history, and positive proof as to what you 'ad for your brekky on 23/3/2004.

Well, mine has been running really smoothly, noticable power difference BUT - it was a bit harder to start. It did start but there was a distinct hesitance for a few seconds. Once I got going it was fine. And thats on a 25% mix! Not sure I'm convinced yet but it smells great!

Just looked at the kit mentioned above. OK theres a heat exchanger taking hot water from the cooling system but what about cold starts? I'm assuming from what Ive seen its a 1 tank system?

Keep yer peepers on that fuel filter bowl thingy under the filter housing in these early days Rev., and a have a new filter at the ready, just in case like.

Veg oil, straight vegetable oil, SVO, and it really doesn't matter which vegetable it came from. Corn oil, sunflower oil, rape-seed oil, who cares.
Olive oil may be a different matter as some of that (being from Italy) can be a bit thick.

Best not to run on NEAT SVO without proper preparation - heating it.

But .... whether you use it 100% or 50%, every litre you use saves you cash.

Veg oil cut with about 5% kerosene (only as a thinner of course, not as a fuel) will show a big improvement over neat SVO.

It's a far cleaner fuel than dinosaur juice, and a bit more powerful too.
