Evening Folks ,

Looking for some advice , the old Hippo has started a thundery Grumble when turning right, notice it more on roundabouts not full lock but as good as. Now it's seems to be coming from the passenger side rear .

This is intermittent.

Now I had the IRD & VCU replaced 2 years ago.

Had a look under the motor today and the rear differential side mounts are solid .

CV boots look ok as well. Can anyone advise what else to look out for before I put it into the Stealers

How are the tyres? Are they all the same make, type and size with the least worn on the rear?

4 brand new tyres fitted last month

The VCU may only be 2 years old - but worth doing a 1 wheel up test.

With the rear diff - it is almost always the front mount that goes - I recently took the mounts off my parts car - the side/rear ones were in perfect condition, but the front one was completely shot to pieces.

I know @Tony Reeves had to replace the drive shaft support bearings in his rear diff - don't know what the symptoms were.

Also, VCU bearing shows up when turning - low pitch hum noise.

What bearings were used and how many miles??

Definetley not a hum noise . All were genuine LR parts. Don't believe in buying cheap as you end up buying twice .

Had this done at 40,000 & just hit 60,000 last week

Morning Folks had the old Hippo into the garage this morning , mechanic checked it all over and could not find the fault. Took it for a drive and nothing , totally ‍.

I had to fix a bang on my Freelander, but all the clunks, rattles, groans I just leave and they have sorted themselves out

Edit : I did try and fix a 'whir' once, but it just made another type of whir - so left that as well.

Morning folks ,

Finally got a mechanic to look at the issue and it's the Prop Shaft Bearings have started to split causing the annoying sound.

Replaced these 2 years ago for genuine ones from Stealers £86 Each and only lasted 2 years and covered 20,000 miles surely they meant to last a lot longer than that ??

Now is there any other Prop Shaft Bearings out there that are better quality than the Stealers ?

Fit genuine bearings, you don't have to buy them from a main stealer ...shop around ...

VCU bearings = propshaft bearings.

They come with a 2 year parts and labour warranty if genuine Land Rover purchased from an authorised LR dealer - so contact where you bought them from and see if you can get them under the warranty

Assuming of course they were fitted square to the prop......

I've come across this several times since the Tata take over of LR. I suspect they may well be making the parts cheaper than the original parts. Traditionally LR bearings contained FAG rollers (identified by a red grease seal)
The actual assembly was made by GKN if I remember right.

Looking like another supplier is now making them though.

Yes. The VCU support bearings must be at 90° to the VCU shaft centre line. As per the LR diagram shown in your post.
