Hello,my old man has just bought, what i believe to be a series 2 short wheelbase diesel. It sat on an ex army blokes drive for 15yrs,but was apparently well maintained before that.It runs, but i would like to know what you think should be done with it prior to driving it.The clutch has no feel,so that needs a fluid change i reckon, the brakes would need similar treatment, engine oil flush & change + filter.Any other advice would be appreciated.
The old man got it as a project for him and his made to restore. So what do you reckon it is worth, all running and MOT'd,as apposed to a near concours rebuild. Thanks. Mick.

Hello and welcome, run a p38 myself, not realy any clue as to what to do with yours but from the picies it looks like a good project. My self i would start from the bottom up ie chassie, brakes, bearings, bushes, stearing and ball joints. Then the running gear. You can expect a lot of help on here. Keep us all posted as you go on and maybe your experiances will help others, have fun and welcome once more.

looks a good original straight project, ,theres a bit of work but body looks good ,a bit more than a fluid change id think youd need all new cylinders and hoses etc
I realise it needs a lot of work mate, but are your reffering to the brake/clutch cylinders/I would have thought a flush through, and new seals, would do it.

.This aint the first car we restored either,.We sold a Ford 100e last year that took my old man 5yrs,but it was,and still is,the best in the country.Prior to that we did a mk2 Humber Sceptre, and a Rover P5B.

its usually cheaper ,less hassle and a better fix, i normally stick to landies but have done a lot of work on a customers rover 95 this last year

I allso think a priority job is get the triumph sticker off, its a Landrover, lol
The previous owner had a thing for stickers mate. There are plenty of them depicting his travels. He just died, and left his house like a hermits place. We found a box full of his war medals alongside a box of watches, one with a reciept for £40,000 dated 1962 !

£40k in 1962 ?! I'm a bit of a (very) amateur horologist, what is it ?

Welcome by the way :)
Thank you kindly. No idea mate. The blokes house was floor to ceiling with well kept boxes, all full of artifacts and paperwork. Its going to take us weeks to evaluate. He has/had, a collection of classic motorbikes that would fill a village hall, along with a transit van load of memorabillia.Busy times ahead i reckon.

I have found the chassis numbers, but they dont seem to match any on the list of models. Can anyone help with this please. Here are the numbers.
5481718 88291-Z01 JU88. It appears to have been made in Germany, going by the plate that the numbers are on ?

He probably wouldn't like my mate's 100e.... with it's MX5 engine.

I would say looking at the other car he`s done the landy is now in very good hands:)
sounds like busy and interesting times clearing the house, good luck.

It's believed to be a 1968 series 2a.However,it has an 80in wheelbase, and having checked the chassis number ID on another site,i see all of the numbers have an A at the end. This one is 27110236E,and stamped on both plaques,is,Made in Germany. Can anyone shed any light on this please.Thank you.
