help needed series 3 2.25 coldstart light issue

i have just brought a series 3 2.25 petrol

after fixing the starter motor and putting fresh fuel in she fired up and ran very poorly black smoke out exhaust stalling missfiring

however the coldstart light is staying on and i cannot see a choke lever i have removed the air pipe and the choke is off any ideas whats going on??

The cold start light is operated by a switch that should clip to the choke cable just on the engine bay side of the bulkhead. If it's not clipped on the switches default setting is on.

I doubt it's anything to do with your smoke issue.

It should be under the bonnet. Looks like

Black smoke if the choke is off usually means its time for a replacement carb ! .........i had the same problem !! fitted new carb and its running perfect

have taken off the webber carb and some **** has tried to drill the jets out have orderd a replacement will see what thats like when it comes
