Hi, i joined last night, to hopefully get loads of help from you guys.
My missus has just brought a 2000 TD5 ES, from first glance looks very tidy but looking close up it needs a bit of TLC.
My best mate is having in tomorrow to go over the whole car to make sure there is nothing wrong.
But in the introduce yourself i was told to get the EKA code as i dont have it, how do i get it??
Also want to install an aftermarket head unit as the HK display dosent work all the time, probably Kenwood.
I know this has been ask/replied to many times but just asking for clarity, can do away with the cd changer but want to use the amp and speakers, also the steering stalk controls ??

think that will do for now, thanks Neil

Hi Neil,

EKA code is either in the paperwork , ( may be on a security card) or if you know someone with a nanocom they can read it for you from the car, or you could ask a Landrover dealer for it, if you have proof of ownership.

Cheers

neilly has given you the answer about the EKA; your local LR dealer can give you that, free of charge. Just provide proof of ownership. If a previous owner has changed it for any reason, then it'll have to be read from the vehicle.
If you intend keeping it for any length of time then getting yourself a Nanocom or Hawkeye code reader might be a reasonable investment.
On the radio front, if the curent radio is faulty and you're going to replace it with an aftermarket unit, then the output level from the radio will probably be too high to drive the amplifier properly. Some head units do have a facility switch to and feed out a low level output, otherwise you'll need a small device to reduce the level and match the two devices such as this kind of thing:-

You'll also probably need to get some adapter plugs to connect the existing wiring in the vehicle to the new radio. Depending on the make and model of the radio, you'll also need an adapter so that you can intergrate the steering column controls.
An In-Car Entertainment specialist can advise you, possibly even Halfrauds as a last resort.
There are some members who have done this very successfully in the past and documented their methods quite fully on the forum.

Thanks for the replys guys, my mate has diagnosis equipment, what's different about a nanocom ??
This is the head unit I was looking at
Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111987877722
I have looked through the forum but can't seem to find any useful information, have you got some links place to there install

Thanks neil

The Disco 2 Td5 is often quoted as not being fully OBDII compliant, full compliance for diesel Disco's didn't come in until the second half of 2004 with the Disco 3. V8 petrol Discos were compliant earlier. The diagnostic socket will connect to OBDII code readers, but some of the software protocols can result in nonsense readings and in some cases the inability to make alterations or corrections.
The Nanocom device software has been written with the Disco 2 in mind and in recent years the Hawkeye code reader has caught up with it. There's also the Lynx diagnostic unit but that needs a laptop to present the results.
That radio does have the low level outputs to properly drive an amplifier (2 RCA Preout) but you will probably require some ISO/Din adapters, unless you want to start hacking wires about (not recommended).
If you enter "aftermarket head unit" (without the quotes) in the search box at the top right of the page you'll come up with a fair amount of useful information on the subject.

InCarTec are based in Exeter and do installs too if you get stuck. I have an Alpine HU in my 2004 TD5 and they sorted out the steering controls for me. I'd happily recommend them.

If your mate is having her in keep your eye on the feller, the old lady may need a bit of TLC but that's your job...

Is this still Anything goes...

My local LR dealer wanted £25 to provide me with my EKA code!
Mine provided EKA, key code and radio code FOC on showing the log book.
http://www.autoleads.co.uk can advise on connectors to keep your steering wheel controls and possibly commecting to the amp. My system didn't have an amp so just needed the harness and remote conmectors. Email the tech help with full car details and current setup and the make and model of the head unit you wish to fit. Very quick to reply and very helpful.

If you get an EKA code from a dealer, then please check it works.

Twice now , I have come along a D2 checked the EKA code and found the Previous owner has changed the EKA code ( as said above by Brian47) . The one provided by the security card / LR dealer was not correct.

Cheers

JUst got it back from my mates and there seems to be a few minor niggles
1, injector wiring harness needs replacing due to oil ingress...
2, diff oil needs changing
3, 2 little adjustable pin things on the rear suspension need replacing
4, drivers door locks but dont unlock,
5, one key is not paired to the car.

other than that apart from some small leakes underneth (power steering, transfer box, sump ect) shes all good :eek::eek:

thanks for all your advice guys, much appreciated.
So no EKA code found on any of his equipment, would you be able to get it via nanocom/hawkeye?

1. Injector harness. Make sure that the oil hasn't made its way into the ECU. It might take a couple of goes to get the bulk of the oil out of the wiring loom to the ECU.
2. Straightforward job. 1.6 ltrs of 75W/90R in each.
3. "Little adjustable pin things". Sorry, don't understand.
4. Sadly the only sure-fire way to sort this one is a replacement latch assembly. About £70 new. Easy enough to replace, a couple of hours work but the door needs to be stripped down to do the work. There are some posts on here regarding replacing the actuator motor inside, but I don't know how viable that route is.
5. I'm pretty sure that it can be reprogrammed to the car with a Nanocom. Other will be able to say for sure.

A Nanocom can show the EKA. Have you tried LR yet?

Sorry, wrong post, stupid phone

Hi Tillytomp,

EKA code can be shown and reprogrammed with nanocom.

Key fob , as long as it has the little sticker on the key fob chip can be programmed into the car and checked.

Cheers

its on the plugs to the ECU thats why we are gonna change it .

they are underneth, in front of each rear wheel and have soming to do with the leveling system(as you can now see, im not a mechanic)

quite confident can get the ltach sorted
