Gents. Found the leak in my steering system it's the high pressure hose from the pump. The reservoir hose was loose too but tightened that up ok.
The leak in the hp hose is shown on pic. Can this be tightened or is it new hose time?

If it from the swaged end of the flexible pipe then replacement is the only real (and reliable) solution. They aren't that expensive but are a bit fiddly to replace (fan out job)

you need to swap the whole pipe ,from pump to box , remove fan lh thread spanner and hammer to shock fan undone, remove top intercooler hose, top rad hose and rad cowling, theres a bottom hose that is held by 2 clips to cowl that needs unclipping, cowling comes out drivers side first ,once cowls removed removing pipe becomes obvious

Blimey that sounds like a lot! I'll take a pic of the other end just in case I've mislead you with my ineptitude! The hose I'm talking about is totally exposed and leads to stainless steel solid pipe that travels across the steering rack and doesn't look like it needs all of that other stuff removed. How it attaches to that solid pipe is the mystery unless the whole bleedin' lot needs to be replaced???

yep it does, i had mine go similar to you.

The hose and steel pipe are all one thing and you replace in one go, it has just one part number for it.

Island 4x4 sorted me out.

I changed mine from the bottom up, i took the fan shroud off (i notched mine so i could take it off without taking the fan off) then i took the pas pump off its mount (after loosening the fitting for the hose) replaced the hose and bolted the whole lot up and refilled the system. The steering box end i managed from the top down with my head in the engine bay.

AH that explains it, all one piece. Seems a bit of a waste to ditch the whole lot for the sake of one little end going. Maybe a bit of packing tape and bluetack might work??
nah i tried to bodge mine but it runs at quite high pressure.

other option is to take it off and take it to a hydraulics shop they may be able to repair it with new connectors or something.

Is this on the 2.5na?

have a search of threads i have started, i think James Martin found me a part number, even then it was not outrageous from LR but was a special order part

Hydraulic place will make a new one cheaper than most places supply them at ...

Just bought the part, I'm going to go for it myself, it'll be good experience and looks like I can't do too much damage!! I'll tap you up for more details once I start it if it ever stops sodding raining. Cheers for the part number too, got a Britpart one for 15 quid, 2 year warranty.

do i need to drain the cooling system to undo the rad pipe?

no youll lose a bit ,but not much

Right, major victory for a major mechanical inept! I managed to change the hose, lost a lot more coolant than I anticipated undoing the rad pipe though so if any noobs are reading this get ready with a container to catch the fluid as about 2 litres escaped.!
The nightmare was getting the small end onto the box. In the end I grabbed a passing school child who was delighted to get his hands dirty and he nipped it up in no time. Very good experience for me and probably saved me a hundred quid in a garage!
Thanks for the info James et al! Again!!!!!

if you pull hose of thermostat housing and leave it on rad then bend hose back you lose less ,but 2 litres for a succesful job isnt bad:)

Ah, now there's a solution I realise now the pipe could be bent around the cowling upon removal. Other nightmare was refilling the coolant, the plastic nut on top of the housing is shightw. Can you get brass ones? No not bad for a novice like me.
