So after the trip to the Plain a few problems arose. On the way back, I had to drive 60 miles with the turbo disconnected due to a de laminated intake pipe. At the time I thought I had got water in the turbo so a nice easy fix. Another problem is the steering box is now leaking as well as the clutch master cylinder. Fixed the intake pipes with some silicone hose and metal pipes. Just the master cylinder and steering box to sort now.

Finally found a discovery transfer box for my 90. Haven't got around to fitting it yet as it needs a couple of new seals.
Been for my first pay and play at Muddy Bottom which caused a bit of damage. The whole handbrake mechanism seized and the front diff pan has a small hole in it. Anyway, at least I found out my new snorkel is sealed and the car got muddy which was the main thing.

Haven't written an update in a while. Been busy at uni so haven't had any time to drive the car at all. You may remember that my power steering box was leaking. I had my dad remove it and rebuild it with new seals but unfortunately the box was too worn so I had to order a recon box from paddocks which has been fitted. I'm told that the steering is much tighter as I've been fighting to keep it in a straight line for the past year.

Anyway, being at uni makes it very difficult to keep on top of all the maintenance but the box has now been replaced and the MOT is due on the 11th so without telling me my dad has booked it for tomorrow at 13:30.

FINGERS CROSSED.

I'll update tomorrow on how it goes.

Now back from university for Christmas, I decided to change my 1.4 defender transfer box for the 1.2 disco box I bought in the summer. After resealing the cover plate and changing the output seal, managed to use a trolley jack to lift it up and fit it.
Took about a day and would rather have had a hoist but didn't have one available. It feels much nicer to drive at high speeds but yet to see what it's like towing and heavily loaded.

I have used the handbrake off the 200tdi that has the expander. Every time I go off-road this fills up with mud and seizes so eventually I need to buy a 300tdi handbrake lever so that I can use the backplate and shoes that came with the box.

Been doing the same to mine today except 1.66 down to 1.4 box. Used an engine crane but still took some elbow grease to get it lined up and in. Looking forward to the first drive!!

Been out playing over near Petersfield on Wednesday. Discovery transfer box worked fine. The lanes we did were a bit more technical than what I'm used to but got down all of them even though the bumper sustained a bit of damage.

I like the fact you have a personal photographer who follows the landys on foot hehe nice video looks like a good day out.

Is there a big difference driving it with the new trannybox in place as mine is a 1.4 and i like the gearing but it drinks juice def 200tdi with 265 special tracks doing 20 mpg on the Mway doing 65 mph :(

It certainly makes it harder starting off, something I'll probably get used to. I haven't towed anything yet but as I can only tow up to 750kg I don't really see it being a problem.
Using the defender box I used to get 30mpg cruising at 70 with my 265 mud terrains. Only done about 100 miles with the new one so haven't had a chance to see about fuel economy but I'll let you know.

Got round to changing the handbrake to the disco 300tdi plate after my current one seized solid on the driveway. Turns out I also needed to buy a defender cable as the disco one is too short. Unfortunately no pictures

While I was doing the handbrake I changed one of the propshaft Uj's which was well past it's sell by :D

The big day........MOT
Very pleased to say it drove there and back perfectly and even better, PASSED! No advisories at all which is even better. Now just needs to get a VIC then I can get the V5 and get it taxed. Really good to know that all the work has paid off :)

Thought that garage name seemed familiar, I work just around the corner from here!

What I thought would be an hours job this afternoon turned into a whole afternoon and now the car isn't drivable. Decided I would change the leaking pinion seal on the diff only to find that I bought the wrong seal . Anyway, got that on order and should be here Wednesday. As I couldn't move the car anywhere I thought I'd tighten up the loose wheel bearing. Turns out water has got in the bearing and now that needs changing too (job for tomorrow). Lastly, while stripping the hub down, I notice the drag link is bent like a banana so I have ordered a new HD one.

So the steering bar was bent beyond repair and I had decided that with the amount of offroading I do that I should buy an HD one. Unfortunately, bending the old one corrected the tracking so when I put the new HD one on, the tracking was way out and has taken a lot of adjustment to get the steering feeling as it did. Also got a pair of diff guards which I fitted before tackling a lane on the way home from uni. Being on my own though with very worn tyres, I didn't get very far before giving up. Next on the list- 4 Cooper STT's

Just read this thread from start to finish (all 16 pages), what an awesome rebuild!! Wish I had half the knowledge you had when it comes to restoring Landy's :)

Now get yourself a steering guard and some rock/tree sliders, will save yourself a fortune in unnecessary repairs I reckon, plus they look awesome too :D

Finally on summer holiday after first year at university. Now for the jobs I have been meaning to do all year. First was to cut some carpets out of some artificial grass I ordered, maybe not to everyone's taste. I also still have two leaking pinion seals so I ordered a new flange with seal but after getting the old one off easily, the new one refuses to slide on the splines. Need to have another look at it tomorrow when I get the chance so it's going nowhere at the moment :( Also on the look out for a new set of tyres for a couple of laning trips planned for the next couple of months.

That's mint!
Typical bloke, I was looking at the pictures first and thought bloody hell he's got his bulkhead on the front lawn! Then I read the post!
I probably wouldn't do it in mine, but it does look good! :)
