I've been noticing a damp patch (sometimes with a trail running away) under the front of the RR whenever it's parked up for any length of time. While it was on the ramps last week getting new front tyres, I had a peek underneath it and saw what looked like ATF (red colour) on two silver-metal pipes just after a 90 degree bend. As we were pushed for time I didn't do any full on investigating however I have been checking the power steering fluid and there has been no noticeable change in level. With the amount that has leaked/been left on the road, I'd have seen this on the PAS dipstick.

So, searching a bit on here it looks like the pipes for the ATF cooler are a known problem area. Would it be a good guess that this is the culprit here? I notice they're only £20 from island (though 2 are listed) so figured as I'm going to be ordered other parts I might as well get them too.

Obviously a proper clean up and look around near the cooler would tell me for definite but in this weather I can't really get under it just now. So, pipes a good bet?

Be warned you may need to replace the cooler too.....the pipes can be a decker to get off leading to having to cut them off the cooler, necessitating a new cooler too.

Hmm, yeah. I've read a few posts on here with people mentioning it strips the thread off the cooler.

I guess I can order the whole lot and return if I don't use the cooler!

Just need to find the correct pipework!

I need to do this too but heard that it can also strip threads on gear box! resulting in that having to come out!... is this true?

Sorry mate thats why i throw it in there to get the answer from someone thats done it... I read a post on here and someone had to have the box out to get the pipes off Im sure??

Mine had a huge leak before i owned it (about a litre a week). 1 was the oil cooler (replaced) then the auto dipstick tube had vibrated against the metal cooler pipes (welded it no leaks now) then insted of bolting the filler tube back on the starter i put a 2in metal bracket off the starter bolt cracked off the filler to sump bolt then used my new bracket and niped it all up (no leaks or problems and now the pipes wont rub on the filler tube again)

after having my box out i really doubt you could re-tap or anything if you did strip the thread in the box one above the gear seaselecter cable is a fiddly tw*t

When I replaced my pipes I found that the front brackets didnt line up correctly and put a strain on the short pipe that goes to the oil cooler qand eventually caused a failiure of the pipe so be careful when fitting them. the next time I replaced them I got some made up at a hydraulic works and these will not fail

where they a pretty simple swap for new then?

I never replaced the cooler and i only undid mine to pull box out welded the pipe in situe was a pin hole so a patch and weld over just as it needed doing there and then. Can put pics up tomorrow if you wish?
