On a 1.222 disco 1 lt230 (mated to r380) what is the exact procedure for removing the input gear? Ashcrofts seems to suggest you rotate the gear until it pulls out? So jack stands under rear axle, pto cover off and spin prop until it pulls out?

In general terms what is sacrificial on these parts? Gbox shaft or gear itself?
Final question; if I remove pto cover do I drain oil first?
Cheers

you dont need to drain t/box , it helps to have a rear wheel jack up , both mainshaft and input gear splines wear together, best of luck getting a 1.2 input gear out in situ

Really? I nearly tore my hair out getting the shafts in on my series box rebuild. Is it same principle of gears just not meshing right? Cheers James

on the lt230 intermediate gear cluster has 3 gears the center gear is driven by input gear but is the same height as the high gear (outer gear) but not the same pitch or alignment, the input gear struggle to go past the high gear

Thanks James. Let's hope my tiny bit of remaining backlash is the rear axle!:p
