What is it about looking like a storm trooper when biking then? Bit like the hamshanks when the play the 'american football' pretend rugby. When we were kids you went out in jeans and a t-shirt on you bike, if you fell off it hurt, and you tried not to do it again. Thats what learning from your mistakes is about.
Same as when I go skiing or snowboarding, all the helmets and pads and crap, to be honest, if I hit something that bad and was going to be in a veg rack for the rest of my natural, I'd rather bow out then. Mind you, I'm not that bloody stupid in the first place.

Usually we do go out in jeans /tee, its just doing downhill/big things that you wear protection for. If your foot slips off the pedal, it can spin round and hit/break your shin bone. The pads protect that. body armour means your less likely to spear yourself on the handlebar, and prevents you from being cut, it also supports your back, less likely to break it should you fall in a bad position. The full face helmet is an obvious, you seen the size of some rocks next to trails?

Basically it prevents you from getting open cuts, and lessens the risk of breaking bones...
I don't wear that **** though, Im a dirt jumper, so its jeans, a tee, ****pot lid, and some gloves for me.

Nice pic Mondo btw, you should consider taking up roadie cycling ;)
