Ive had mine a few months now. Best mod you can do is a remap. gets rid of that awful flat spot below 2000rpm. I used dynachip, cost me £250.

Fantastic mod to do to a td5 imho.Mike at Dynachip is a great bloke who knows his stuff.

Thanks for the info guys,do they use more fuel when they are chipped??
I would consider what other mods you want to do before the re-map. That way you only have to re-map once to get the best out of everything that's been done.
Consider egr removal, de-cat if it is fitted with one (then find a friendly MOT Tester), centre silencer removal (not for everyone as there is a bit more "boom" heard in the car when pulling) and a bigger intercooler (cheapest place seems to be Paddock at £360). Then you could either re-map or go for a variable vane turbo before the map, but at around £850 the VVT is a pricey thing compared to the £250 for a re-map. The jury seems to be out on boost boxes for standard turbos, but many have run them for years without problems. With an intercooler and re-map, it may be wise to use a K&N filter as I have heard tales of standard paper ones being ripped due to the increased air flow.
With most tuning on TD5's it seems to be a case of what you want from the tuning. Drive it like you stole it and you may well see a decrease in fuel economy - although perhaps not if you drove it that way before tuning. Drive a bit more normally and there is no reason why you shouldn't get better mpg as you will be going up through the gears quicker and holding onto the higher gears for longer - at least that's what I have found.

No ! If anything less fuel consumed ie better mpg as you don't need to push them so hard.
I had three re-mapped TD5's and to be honest they just feel like they should have left the factory like that. They drive properly when re-mapped.
