12v/24v !?

Hello,

My 90 has a 24V battery, but I want to drop a 12V radio cassette into the dash. All the wiring is there from a previous radio, but is the operating voltage actually 24V, or is it transformed into 12V somewhere along the wire?

are you sure its a 24v battery cos all the 24 volts landies i've seen have 2 x 12v batteries in them. a 24v battery would weight in at around 3 tons.

Naaah ...... get a voltmeter or a sparks and check it out.
As Slob says, chances are it is a 12 volt system.

Only old army FFR (fitted for radio) landies were 24 volts systems, and as Slob says their batteries weighed in at lots, and they had GIGANTIC generators under their bonnets.

However, NONE of their batteries were 24 volts in one battery!
The 24 volts came from connecting two batteries in series, (in line end to end [ -....+]joined to [-....+] giving 24v across the two outside ends.

Maplins will sell you a great multi-meter for a fiver.
Every Landy owner should have at least several.
I carry one in the Disco all the time.

Basically two guys who are like psychologists. They look at the way that people talk and figure out whether they're using words to cover things up, or whether they're lying etc.
