Got one, what to do first?

Bought a Disco 1 v8 (EFI) the other day to use as an off roader and over time turn into a challenge/comp truck. Other than the obvious service, is there anything else that I should check / change on the vehicle? The timing and belt was done about 3 years ago but the vehicle was little used. The vehicle was stood for a year before I bought it and besides the starter issue, she fired up and sounded all good. Collecting it later this week.

This vehicle wont be going on the road soon so anything MOT wise isn't an issue.

Check for rust, rust, rust, more rust then even more rust! The stuff gets everywhere on these things.

Did I mention check for rust? :behindsofa:

Places to check include rear crossmember, boot floor, rear arches and quarter panels, sills, footwells, under windscreen, front wings, lightboxes, oh and around the alpine windows.

So pretty much everywhere chassis is usually good on D1's though but wouldn't hurt to look over it especially round the gearbox crossmember area.

Lol thanks for the eventual reply - I've seen the vehicle and the chassis was waxoyled, including the inside of the bumper at the back. No rust on the panels where the rear doors are. Didn't look at the boot floor but was told it was ok. Not too much of a problem either.

Only problem with it was the fact it needed to be bumped to start, only a click when the key is turned. Hoping it's just going to be a loose/rusty terminal or faulty battery rather than having to change the starter. Any other ideas on that?

Waxoyl is great stuff......for hiding rust. I just wanted to mention rust again.
Look for rust.
Also look for annoying **** like dodgy elec windows and locks, leaks, worn suspension, worn gearbox, er worn drivetrain! It all goes after a time. But at least they're cheap eh!

Yeah that's it. I'll keep me eye out for rust, but from what I've seen it all looks solid. It's gonna be a comp truck and most likely put on a trailer to go everywhere, it don't need to be tidy. I did have a pretty good go over it when I went there.
