it aint an MOT item is it? I wud have thort it wud be "if its there its gotta be good else it dont matter" - a bit like a spare tyre.?

My FL sailed through its MOT (D.V.T.A)

I asked the guy if he would fail a FL without a prop?

tester said ------- "I would fail the vehicle as it would not be presented as it was designed"

If any permanent prop mods are to be done vehicle might have to go for full modification test about £200 I believe

There is no legal requirement to have a spare tyre and if you do it can be as bald as a coot and the vehicle can still pass an MOT as it is not an MOT item. The same goes for reversing lights by the way, if they don't work then no probs coz they ain't checked in an MOT.

Not where I am! Spare tyre most be legal tread depth.

The early VW beetles have the water jets pressurised from the spare tyre (42psi). Now thats simple but clever German engineering for you!

You need windscreen water jets for an MOT pass (on cars that have them) which in turn means you gotta have a legal spare tread depth.

Back to the prop mod issue..... if something is going to happen; then thought needs to be given to switching back original transmission on the vehicle, otherwise vehicle will have to undergo modification test and MOT

if yu look on the right of his post - it tells ya ;)

its next to "location:":D

So it is! I've just noticed that I don't have a location so probably I don't exist??!!

Anyway, back to the MOT.... as NI is part of the UK it comes under the same MOT testing criteria so LR, if you've been refused an MOT coz of a dodgy spare, I suggest you have a 'subtle' word in the nice tester's ear'ole! :D

Where are you then LR? Presumably not in the UK?

For the UK, details of what is tested is available here ===> What does a garage look at during an MOT test? : Directgov - Motoring

'Wheels and tyres - condition, security, tyre size and type, and tread depth. Spare tyres are not tested'

As MHM said ...... Norn Iron!

I only know because a mate used to have a 1972 beetle, it was a stunning car, he had to get his spare sorted before the MOT.

I still haven't put the propshaft back on my FL, it's been off since last year!! My Dad's now moved it out of the glasshouse..........well it didn't grow any spare parts in there LOL!! I'll get it fixed before the MOT is due in August :D

Welcome back Cats Eyes

Hope all is well.

Just drive safely and you shouldnt have any probs.

If in the unlikely event of an accident, you can always replace the prop before the insurance assessor comes out to view the damage.

Not that I am promoting insurance fraud :p

However, with Gordon Brown slapping on extra road tax, I have reduced my carbon emissions by going mondo mode

Mondo mode will save the planet :D
