What have you done to your Freelander today

The back box fell off, for the second time just before the joint. I got fed up of welding it back up. It isn't that much louder without it and for a while I had it just the center pipe to the bit over the subframe, then it started rattling.
I would need a new back box, center pipe and the bolts that hold the cat on are siezed so would need a new one of them aswell. If I replaced all that I would like to replace the flexi pipe aswell. So for one little rusty bit about 2" long I would need to replace the whole lot costing a lot. Bit of a shame when the rest of the exhaust is good. The MOT laws either just about to or already have changed to make diesel cars keep the cats so can't really remove it.

The repair I made didn't cost much. £6 for an exhaust clamp which I only used because I couldn't remove the exhaust to weld it properly. The bit of rubber that is squeezed between the exhaust and the angle stops the exhaust resonating around the car. Not a perfect solution but as I said I ran out of gas to weld a bolt on and hang it properly

Oh and the mistake - I chopped about 2" too much off the exhaust from the cat and so the pipe came out where the lifting point is on the sill. I managed to clamp the exhaust just to one side of it but it's not ideal. Again it's another job for when I get some more gas

Dont ya need backbox for mot? My full exhaust (without cat used old one) was 120 fitted

Don't need backbox as long as it's not noisey. Testers discretion as to how noisey is too noisey

I thought that only applied to dpf and cat? I suppose to get around it I could mock up a small cherry bomb type silencer. As said it doesn't really do much anyway

Nope, same number of silencers and everything. But yeah, if you make it look like a silencer but its empty then they can't prove otherwise without cutting your exhaust up, which they cant do

An mot tester can only test what they see. Might just gaffa tape come cardboard over the exhaust and write in it "silencer underneath"

I had only heard about the cat and dpf changes in relation to the emissions and all that I don't see how the number of exhaust parts can matter. I will have to read up on it and find a loophole

Been out with Surrey 4x4 Response delivering water to flood victims in Chertsey. The Freelander could have coped with the water as it wasn't over 440mm deep, but we didn't know that, so I went out in a raised disco 2 riding shotgun.

So not actually used the Freelander in it, but I did drive it to Chertsey Fire & Rescue Centre. A Mr Cameron turned up and thanked our chairman for all our help.

Just been back patrolling the flooded roads, this time in my Freelander. I was told the water came up to the top of my wheel nuts by my colleague behind me.

What amazes me is that all the do-gooders are using these floods as another global warming thing, saying how we should get rid of polluting cars like 4x4's... Yet the only things that can get around in water like that are 4x4's, 4x4's and people like you are bringing all the stranded people a bit of hope and hopefully putting a smile on their face. Good on ya
