Engine Codes ...... Location of

I have a 52 plate Discovery TD5, which needs a replacement engine, after looking on different websites, I have seen engines advertised with the codes 10p/15p and would like to know how I find out which one I have.
If I have a 10p would I be able to get a 15p and interchange or the other way round. (the car is automatic)

P.S. Anyone got a cheap engine for sale?

10p is usually pre 2002
15p is usually 2002 onwards

how many pipes have you got coming out of the fuel pressure regulator?

2 is 10p engine and 3 is the 15p engine.

I believe there is a 16p engine too

Conflicting info on 16p engines, Some people say there is no such thing as a 16p engine and is simply a stolen 15p engine with a couple of extra dots.

Weather it's true or not I don't know

Believe in the electronic controls a little more advanced and more tune able

Unless the engine has been previously changed and the DVLA not informed, the engine number contains that information and can be found on the V5.

For instance 15P12345A, 10P98765Z.
