Got my 1st to replace rrc as more headroom in disco and I tow a big caravan, I must have been lucky cos current TD5 hasn't let me down I've had it over 5 yrs put it thro 5 mot's no probs, had springs swapped to coils and two tyres in all this time 2 300 tdi's only had 1 alternator and couple of wheel bearings replaced for mot's in 4 yrs and my 200 had to have a new rad overheated when towing twin axle van have I just had a few good ones or is it that people slag them off more for being bad than praise them when they don.t go wrong

TD5s can be horrendously troublesome throughout, most D1s are all the same, rare to have no faults but rare to have massive problems, some TD5s seem to be great others are stinking horrendous things, its pot luck.

I had a 300 Tdi 3 door 1200 quid as I needed something when I blew the Freelander HG (L series 200K miles) I loved it but missus said it looked cheap and nasty inside. Already had a 300Tdi 90 so traded the disco for an MG ZS (L series) saloon. Loved it but i'm getting old and it's very low. Traded it for the aforesaid 'stinking horrendous thing' which I had for two months spent 5 weeks off the road and gave it back in exchange for a 'P38 DSE' and £500 last week. The P38 has done more miles in two days that the DiscoTD5 managed in 2 months. But I'd still like a high spec 3 door 300tdi disco if such a thing exists. The 90 just sits there starts on the button has been round France twice and across to Poland and back plus various off road trips 215K miles on the clock leaks like a bastard and I love it to bits.
Bought my 200tdi 2 door 1 owner out of a promise really . Looked after it for a elderly customer of mine who was a landrover fanatic and he maintained it regardless of cost . Unfortunately he became very ill very quickly and I bought it of him .
I wasn't that keen on it at first but it's growing on me . I could have sold it ten times over but I made a promise ill look after it so I'm stuck with it .
That dosent mean I'm not going to off road prep it and hope to get on some laining trips later in the year

Honestly??? I brought my Disco 1 cause it was cheap.... Now I LOOOOVVVVEEEEE it... ...... Literally :high5:.... Just waiting for my wife to divorce me, which is bound to happen soon, what with the amount of time I spend with the Disco and our love child(ren).... Welder.... ... Grinder and Red Oxide.... :jaw:
I like the agricultural feel, the fact its mechanical and almost everything is easy to get to and I can have a crack at fixing it myself...... In general I think they are Brilliant machines

The first one I bought V8, was to use its heart in a defender "project" that I had on the go, but...as I'm not the most patient of people I just used used it until it died.
The 300tdi i now own is just a workhorse, use it for shooting and as something to just run about in, bought it 3 years ago as a non runner, stuck a head on it and then just used it and used it and used it, now very dirty and scruffy round the edges but gets us where we need to be in reasonable comfort and so far it's done 210k miles and has needed very little in terms of repair.

"Couldn't afford a Range Rover" . . . or in truth, to keep running the one I had.
3.9 efi and I loved it, but between a heavy footed labx, engine playing up and cost of petrol at 8mpg I decided to change to a Tdi Disco.
I thought it was the boring option and I was growing old, but I love it to bits! Easier to work on, more carrying space, goes everywhere I need it to and easier to work on.
